The Islamists in Mali are smashing the Timbuktu mausoleums* again. “Not a single mausoleum will remain in Timbuktu,” Abou Dardar, a leader of the Islamist group Ansar Dine, told AFP news agency. Islamists in control of northern Mali began earlier this year to pull down shrines that they consider idolatrous.

Compiling a list
This is bad. Radical Islamists are compiling a list of unmarried mothers in northern Mali, raising fears of cruel punishments such as stoning, amputations and executions, a senior United Nations official said.
