Anti-rape underwear

A company has made anti-rape underwear for women.
What about making don’t-rape underwear for men and make the wearing of that underwear compulsory?
It won’t work, right?

The responsibility to not be raped is not on the woman. The responsibility to not rape is on the man.

If people still do not understand it, the companies will continue making all kinds of anti-rape spooky thingies.
But we all know that these thingies won’t stop rape.

If nothing works, then women would be advised to literally lock their vagina. Believe it or not, it happened. A man kept his wife’s vagina under lock and key for years!

Do you guys prefer to go out wearing armour everyday for not being murdered? Or you want to get a safe place where nobody would murder anyone!

May be a underwear made by a multinational company protect a women from physical rape. Is there any gadget to protect her from a mental rape…..which a holy mother-power is bearing every day. – @janshri/twitter

  2. blondeintokyo says

I think it should be pointed out that these underwear won’t stop a guy from beating the shit out of the woman or holding a gun to her head in order to force her to take the underwear off. Nor will they stop forced oral sex or other sexual contact. In general, a really useless, idiotic, and sexist product.

  3. Francisco Bacopa says

Seems like some of these garments are as likely to injure the woman as they are the potential rapist. Maybe that’s the point. Maybe these are actually female genital mutilation machines.

Is that so horrible? I think it is. But maybe some people get off on the idea that a slut who put herself in the position to get the raping she deserved would have her labia and clitoris mostly replaced with scar tissue.

That way she can understand the error of her ways and have pleasureless sex with her husband.

BTW, I totally think the solution to rape is almost entirely about men. Reduce peer support for rape culture among men and there will be many fewer rapes

    • scarlett says

I agree with your statement. I believe the point in which you stated about rape culture is an important and relevant one.

  4. gwen says

It is only anti rape underwear if the rapists wear it….and it should come with a straitjacket so they can’t beat women nor commit rape with other objects. See? It’s just that easy..

“Do you guys prefer to go out with armour everyday for not being murdered?”

Good question. In the US more and more states are allowing people to carry concealed weapons.

In Arizona, since I am over 18, I don’t need a permit to buy a gun, or carry that gun concealed.

    • BobTrent says

Federal law prohibits the sale of ammunition that will fit any mass produced handgun to or to be purchased by anyone under 21.
If anyone over 21 buys such ammo and gives it to a person under 21 it is a ‘straw man’ transaction and is illegal.

Kindly and please don’t blame everything on men…..

There men also who get harrased both mentally and physically by women and please don’t deny that this does not happen……Someone comes up with bullshit of some kind in this case these underwear and you start blaming men…I am sure many men like me think that this outrageously ridiculous…..You never wrote anything on peppersprays used by females…

It is the responsiblity of both the Parents (Man and the Woman) to teach their children (girl or a boy) the basic morals, ethics so that they can come up with a strong character…..

      • Dushyant Chauhan says

Excellent…….And you are fighting for women empowerment…..One has to raped in order to show empathy….Good…I have to say no more….

        • scarlett says

yes if this is what it takes for men to feel an eight of the pain in which women have to endure due to the fact some men have to show their strength and stamina to ensure they are the physically stronger gender.

        • scarlett says

and this is not the case of women empowerment it is the case of being abe to live in a world in which women are liberated aweay from rape. I appreciate men are raped, boys are raped. I worked ten years in a home in which children of both genders were raped and beaten. Hence, I understand your point however if I wear a short skirt and red lipstick please convey the reason why men think it is for them? I wear this style for me as I like it, in the evenings I love 1930s fashion. I believe some men are very arrogant and believe the woman’s body is for their taking. Therefore society needs to take action and if that means brutality then so be it. I carry about a pepper spray at all times and I use it if I feel threatened as I will never be raped again by your darling man kind.

    • Chaos Engineer says

There men also who get harrased both mentally and physically by women and please don’t deny that this does not happen

      Who is denying that happens?

The point is that no one suggests to men that they should waste money on some kind of uncomfortable anti-harassment clothing. The reason is pretty obvious: In the best case, the harassers will just look for easier targets. In the worst case, they’ll figure out how to bypass the clothing, and then everyone will say, “You owned anti-harassment clothing, so you must have consented to the harassment at the time and then regretted it later. Shame on you!”

Better to just strike at the root of the problem and work to stop the harassers. Right now things aren’t completely terrible, but they could be a whole lot better.

You never wrote anything on peppersprays used by females

Well, nobody can write about everything, and new bad ideas tend to generate more discussion than old bad ideas. But you’re right that some of the objections to anti-hrrassment clothing would also apply to pepper spray.

It is the responsiblity of both the Parents (Man and the Woman) to teach their children (girl or a boy) the basic morals, ethics so that they can come up with a strong character…..

I’m not comfortable saying that children should have their lives ruined if they’re the unwilling victims of poor parenting. It’s the responsibility of society-as-a-whole to discourage harassment.

      • Dushyant Chauhan says

Bhai mere I mentioned that in my point you didn’t read it that women are to be blamed for everything…..That was my point which you didn’t understand…..

“I’m not comfortable saying that children should have their lives ruined if they’re the unwilling victims of poor parenting. It’s the responsibility of society-as-a-whole to discourage harassment.”

Obviously it is but charity begins from home…..the thing we are fighting for is not an overnight affair may be it’ll take years to acheive…..”I am not a feminist and really don’t want to be” but I believe in treating human biengs with respect (If they deserve it) be it a man or a woman…..Bad parenting is not in every home majority of home have good parenting and when the majority of the community is being taught morals we’ll soon see that trickling down to the entire society…..Societies don’t function like computers they are very slow…..

  8. UJJAL says

    Brilliant write up Taslima.

    Short, simple and powerful logic.

Here the topic is – rape. It is time for good men to understand that rape happens because of men and NOT women. The more we argue over the matter the more time we loose and delay the process to stop the heinous crime.

    • BobTrent says

      Rape happens because: Rapists
      Women get raped because:
      1. Women (exist)
      2. Rapists
Surveys reveal that over half of women, including raped women, put at least part of the blame on raped women. A significant minority put all of the blame for rape on raped women. Like vaginas are penis magnets?
Nonsense. The only people who can reliably stop rape are: RAPISTS. Even if detection, arrest, conviction and imprisonment of rapists was 100% (it’s a fraction of 1%), that is, each rapist gets to commit rape ONCE ONLY, there’s a neverending supply of new rapists.
Damn. DAMN. Cops rape ON CAMERA. Rapists rape and then cry, waiting for the cops get there. Rapists rape and then go rob the victim’s fridge. They’re STILL THERE when the cops get there AND THEY KNOW THE MFG. COPS.ARE.ON. THE.WAY.
Some rapists are otherwise normal. Some seem to have a problem understanding the nuances of consent, like some date rapers.
But many, many are Psychopaths. The prospect of capture, imprisonment and getting their assholes ripped and all their teeth knocked out by bigger, stronger, meaner rapists doesn’t deter them.
Unfortunately it is near-impossible to identify them before their first rape.

    • UJJAL says

@ janiceintoronto – I am quite a bit taken aback on your answer. The fight is more stiff if there are more people like you thinking that ‘rape’ will never stop. Probably history books may help you to find many social wrongs which are abolished today. If you are from Canada, probably you will connect that slavery / human trading is abolished now.

Even thinking very hard I could not derive what kind of thinking made you make such a statement. I took three days to think and then reply to you.

Will keep your answer as record with me for my study reference. Sadly though 🙁

    • smrnda says

True, but the % of any negative behavior can increase or decrease, depending on cultural attitudes, education, better legislation among other factors. Murder is never totally eliminated in any given place, but rates do increase or decrease, and I see no reason why rape cannot decrease if the right actions are taken. Totally stop? Probably not, but decrease? Quite possible.

      • UJJAL says

@ smrnda – Surely positive thinking. No social eradication is easy and quick. May be we will not live to communicate when its gone.
I really don’t see a challenge in future that rape will be eradicated.
Naturally very long explanation, don’t want to bore everyone.

I listened to a car insurance commercial on the radio tonight. They gave some useful advice:

    + lock car doors
+ don’t leave key in the car in the sunscreen
+ don’t park in dark areas, park under a light
+ empty your car of visible valuables

I could not believe they were victim blaming.

    #BelieveSurvivors

    • smrnda says

Something worth noting – advice on how to prevent something from going wrong isn’t always accurate. There is a possibility that taking that advice *might* help your car from being stolen or broken into, but regrettably, most advice offered women isn’t really going to help, as it’s entirely based on preventing *stranger in dark alley* rape, which is a small % of actual rapes.

There’s also a point at which advice to prevent something becomes infeasible. If you’re living in a country without functioning law enforcement, the advice might be ‘drive a tank and not a car.’ That’s not really feasible advice.

      • Good says

In developed countries, around 70% of rape victims were victimized as a result of being too intoxicated to consent. Thus, the simple advice of not getting sloppy drunk is quite feasible.

It is somewhat a straw man to bring up 3rd world countries or similar environments since such environments pose a whole different challenge.

Taslima, have you seen the documentary “The killing fields of Sri Lanka”?

The horror of watching the photos and films the murderers and rapists had been taking themselves made me literally physically sick. I had to stay home from work for a day.

  13. Good says

Do you guys prefer to go out wearing armour everyday for not being murdered? Or you want to get a safe place where nobody would murder anyone!

How many murderers have stopped murdering after being told to “stop murdering”?

    • Francisco Bacopa says

Actually quite a few. Gang members have called for gang truces behind prison walls. others who have lived lives of violence have reformed and reshaped communities and drastically reduced assault and murder rates.

Aside from a few sociopaths and the usual crimes of passion, there is no class of persons that are “murderers”. They are simply people acting in within a distorted culture. Work to change the culture and assaults and murders sharply decline.

Its the same with rape. Most rapes are not the stranger in the bushes kind of thing and there might not be that much we can do about them in the short term. Most rapes are the result of a fairly small percent of men absorbing messages from our misogynistic culture and acting almost with no regard to women’s consent. They have the support of police, prosecutors, judges, and peers. Sometimes they even have the support of women who are supposedly “friends” of the victim. it will take years to clear out the political support for rape culture, but peer culture can be changed quickly. it has vastly changed in my lifetime, though I think it has regressed a little bit in the last few years.

Again, rapists are for the most part not a wholly distinct class. They ar emade and supported by their cocial context. Change that and many of them disappear.

      • Good says

A truce between gangs doesn’t make the gang members no longer murderers. And reformed offenders are reformed due to a process of reformation, not due to someone telling them not to murder.

I think that it is myth that we have a “misogynistic culture”. Since child abuse, including child sexual abuse, happens quite often, do we live in a misopedist society? Quite simply, society has bad people who do bad things and I attribute this more to a growing immoral society. The widespread use of the term “misogyny” by feminists and others is just another way to demonize men and make women into helpless victims of the evil man.

As far are rape/sexual assault by men against women, a very good explanation is given in the link below:

        http://www.roniweisbergross.com/Roni_Weisberg_Ross/Blog/Entries/2010/1/13_Female_Sexual_Abusers_-_Who_Are_They_Part_III.html

“Finally, there is an alarmingly high rate of sexual abuse by females in the backgrounds of rapists, sex offenders and sexually aggressive men – 59% (Petrovich and Templer, 1984), 66% (Groth, 1979) and 80% (Briere and Smiljanich, 1993).”

  14. Good says

The point is that no one suggests to men that they should waste money on some kind of uncomfortable anti-harassment clothing.

No, people suggest than men accept it, deal with it and not cry like wussies. Can we make the same suggestion to women?

    • smrnda says

Actually, the only people I know who spout those lines are men (and occasionally women) who could give a shit about men or women. I certainly don’t think men should accept it or deal with it. I think we should live in a civilized world where people don’t get harassed in public.

Just because some people are willing to eat shit, doesn’t mean everybody should.

  15. UJJAL says

WHY do men keep acting like it’s a woman’s fault if she is raped?! Talk about victim blaming and being in denial. They are trying to use reverse psychology and they are failing miserably. I think all women should carry a GUN or TAZER with them at all times. We could shoot the perpetrator in the balls. This would not KILL him, but make sure he”s learned his lesson and he would still be alive to tell the tale….Being a “nice girl” about the sexist and misogynistic ways in ALL cultures does NOT work. I used to be a Feminist, now I am a RADICAL feminist. Thank you thank you and thank you, Taslima for exposing these scumbag men on your website!

The anti-rape underwear can not be at all a measure to protect women from the rapists. When the problem has been increasing rapidly in the society, the industrialists have made a plan how to utilise this social crisis to strengthen their industries to earn more profits. It’s nothing but a contemptible idea of the man .

To all those men who don’t think the rape jokes are a problem:

I get it—you’re a decent guy. I can even believe it. You’ve never raped anybody. You would NEVER rape anybody. You’re upset that all these feminists are trying to accuse you of doing something, or connect you to doing something, that, as far as you’re concerned, you’ve never done and would never condone.

And they’ve told you about triggers, and PTSD, and how one in six women is a survivor, and you get it. You do. But you can’t let every time someone gets all upset get in the way of you having a good time, right? Especially when it doesn’t mean anything. Rape jokes have never made YOU go out and rape someone. They never would; they never could. You just don’t see how it matters.

I’m going to tell you how it does matter. And I tell you this because I genuinely believe you mean it when you say you don’t want to hurt anybody, and that it’s important to you to do your best to be a decent and good person, and that you don’t see the harm. And I genuinely believe you when you say you would never associate with a rapist and you think rape really is a very bad thing.

Here is why I refuse to take rape jokes sitting down…

A lot of people accuse feminists of thinking that all men are rapists. That’s not true. But do you know who think all men are rapists?

    Rapists do.

Rape is caused by misogyny, rapists, institutional intolerance, structural violence and lack of education and mrals. If rape is a way to intimidate and shut a woman up then this proves her point that your rape jokes are not light and hilarious.
