Actually the trickle down goes into the pockets of the politicians which is exactly how it is meant to work (but not how they claim it works). Of course, most of the money stays with the rich but the politicians and their friends do take a nice bonus in different forms. That’s how they all become multi-millionaires.

The irony here is that “trickle sideways” economics actually does work exactly like that idealized version of trickle down economics pictured in the OP, and has proven itself over many decades since the beginning of welfare. When the government gives tax breaks and/or welfare benefits to the working class, the indigent, the old and the disabled, these people have little choice but to spend that money just so they may survive, and it re-enters our economy almost immediately. Thus, it ends up benefiting the overall economy far more effectively than giving away tax money to the wealthy. Moreover, tax income used to support the poor typically gets passed through many more hands in the “trickling” process which, as the comic strip rightly notes, is why the Republicans idea has always been a lie…but why let reality get in the way of a well-oiled Republican fantasy.
