Donald Trump compounded his problems over his quid pro quo call urging the Ukrainian president to find dirt on Joe Biden in return for return for releasing weapons to them, by then calling on the Chinese government to do the same. In response, this is what the Chinese foreign minister said.
“China will not interfere in the internal affairs of the US, and we trust that the American people will be able to sort out their own problems," China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi said. pic.twitter.com/WZtdctzhex

Good one, Wang Yi!
As US politics sinks into the mire, the chances that we can sort out our problems in anything like a rational manner become dimmer by the day.
Rob Grigjanis says
“China will not interfere in the internal affairs of the US” is almost as funny, and as credible, as “Donald Trump cares about America”. Still, nice punchline.

“we trust that the American people will be able to sort out their own problems”
That was pretty harsh, but deserving, jab…
John Morales says
In light of the trade war Trump has initiated with China, I suspect he imagines that is leverage for his pet issues, too. After all, he’s made no bones that ‘I am the state’ is his sentiment.
Ridana says
I took that less as a jab against us (or misplaced optimism) and more a subtle “China will not interfere in the internal affairs of the US, and we trust that America will not interfere in the internal affairs of China (like, say, Hong Kong).”

… and now it comes out that Trump’s calls have been a litany of cringe, including him asking the Japanese PM to push for him to win the Nobel Prize. As I’ve often said elsewhere, there are always armies of enablers who know about this sort of thing, ready to cash in their 15 minutes as soon as they feel safe. There are a lot of people complicit with this idiot.

re Marcus Ranum @5: The Orange Toddler-Tyrant really does have Obama derangement syndrome. Obama won a Nobel prize, so the OT-T thinks he should get one because he thinks he is better than the black guy who was president before him. The only thing he deserves is a ride on the Crazy Train.
Mobius says
LOL. The Republican party rants about globalism yet seems now to want to turn US presidential elections into a global effort.

@4 Ridana: So do I. It’s a standard formula of authoritarian regimes that want to oppress their own people without getting disturbed. Kind of funny when liberal skeptics are so ….. very much not skeptical.
