It’s too much

More Epstein files have been released, and I’m sorry, I can’t bear to read any more about them. They confirm that the richest people in the country are all lying sex criminals. Bill Gates picked up an STD cavorting with Russian prostitutes, and wanted antibiotics he could sneak into his wife’s food? Trump was having sex with 14 year olds, and slapping them? Clinton and Prince Andrew were partying with “Jeff”? Elon Musk was requesting wild parties when visiting? Here’s a pre-digested summary, which is as deep as I want to go.

Take all the rich people in this country and throw them into a deep pit. I never want to hear from them again.

If folks can bear more of it Aussie ABC has this :

The US Department of Justice has released more than three million documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It comes weeks after a legally mandated deadline for the department to release all documents related to Epstein. The latest release includes approximately 2,000 videos and 180,000 images.

People’s names and images appearing in the documents does not necessarily imply wrongdoing.

Look back on how the day unfolded below.

I saw a post on FaceBook…yeah, I’m guilty of that…last night by a woman who said she had started reading them. She was in tears and could only share one: it was a message about Dumpster’s “Calendar Girl” parties. Yeesh!

Here’s a common-attitude connection that I’m not seeing being made. Compare, contrast, and violently puke over:

    • The underlying attitude toward women (and especially young girls) reflected in the presence of Certain Individuals in those Epstein files and the entirely-unsurprising slow-walking of Trump’s campaign promise to release them all

    • The facially credible (if never fully tested, in court or elsewhere in the public eye) allegations of multiple sexual assaults against the director of the let’s-make-Trump’s-trophyish-wife-appear-fabulous “documentary” just released with an inexplicably bloated budget resembling old-school-mob-kickback construction projects

To be perfectly clear here: It’s the smoke about the underlying attitude and contempt, not particular criminal (or other) liability.

The email showing how desperately Elon wanted to get on Epstein’s island but ends getting rebuffed by Ghislaine instead is pretty funny though. The guy is nothing if not pathetic.

Some comic relief among the horror.

I’m beginning to believe that the wealthy are actually our enemies. Not Mexicans, or women, or gay people. Not Somalis, not Koreans, not Indians. Not the homeless, or the promiscuous or the drug users. Not mothers, not ICU nurses. Not even short people.

    It’s the wealthy.

It’s the wealthy that are the enemies of kindness and happiness and hope, the enemies of a post-scarcity world.

    And it always has been.

Had our annual “winter fest” today. There was a “Republican Men” booth, with bullshit questions about what people think of recent false arrests by the regime, and.. one who booth labelled, “Get your patriot and MAGA merch here!”, more or less, and one whole table was pictures of Trump and crap.. Really wished I had a way to sneak in a banner that said, “Get your Pedo-protection merch here!”, and somehow slap it onto their overhead banner. At least there would then be some honesty involved. Apparently people here are not merely unwilling to wake up, they are in a coma.

    Yeah, I know.
You read more than I did.
I used to read a lot of fantasy fiction; horror, Dark Urban Fantasy, fantasy, etc.. I can’t read that sort of fiction any more.
Our real life is bad enough. I already live in the future dystopia once known as the USA.
I can put books down but I can’t put the real world down.

We did have another protest yesterday though, the ICE Out nationwide protest.
Our local one was organized on short notice of a few days. It was still very large and people were angry.
Nothing like our Federal government using our tax dollars to murder us to bring people out in the streets.

    It was almost entirely peaceful.
A few people in the crowd though started to act out and had to be restrained.
For the first time in a while, someone called the police and they showed up but didn’t do much.
They tried to look casual but I could tell they were just slightly nervous.

It’s been a year now and things are slowly escalating.
Sooner or later there is going to be violence, attacks from the right wingnuts probably.
One of the things they do now is mock charge the crowd in their pickup trucks and cars. Rev up the engine, drive towards the crowds, and then veer off.

Some of the people supposedly “on our side” are going to start acting out, vandalism and throwing things probably.

I’m a minor part of the organizers but that ends up making it my problem any way.

Having seen some of the docs…(sigh)

I really, really want to believe the victims, but the docs that are being sensationalized in the latest set bring to mind the McMartin Preschool case. I realize that just because there are outrageous claims doesn’t mean anything about the others. But I’m worried that this is going to turn into exactly that. Or worse, because of the most extreme of the claims being found false, that will lead to everything else being tainted and the whole thing being tagged “fake.” These aren’t preschoolers, but some of these claims require us to accept the deaths and disappearances of a not-insignificant number of children, so where are the reports? But then I’m reminded of Michael Jackson and how parents will overlook their children being molested if it means money. But a molested child is different from a vanished one, and I keep finding myself spinning.

I mean, they already convicted Maxwell and were closing in on Epstein, so there’s still hope that they’ll be taken seriously and more perpetrators will actually face consequences, but still.

One of the funny things about the situation is that Elon Musk was a big proponent of releasing the Epstein files. Now that they have been released he is suddenly saying they don’t matter. There are two possibilities. First, he thought they would never be released and he could call for their release as part of his anti-government message safely. Second, he didn’t realize how much his name would turn up. Epstein likely told people he deleted things to get rid of records. Deleting email is harder then people think and Epstein was likely keeping them for later blackmail anyways.

I reply: I emphatically agree with both PZ and raven. I feel despair when I see that the criminals ru(i)nning the dept of INjustice should be the people who stop this death spiral. If you mean the “bummer” email saying the parties stopped, that one doesn’t appear on the Epstein library site. The begging for wild parties and romance was legit.

    @4 robro:

a message about Dumpster’s “Calendar Girl” parties

From commentary on an earlier release:

I don’t understand any rhyme or reason to the organization or provenance of the various tranches of Epstein Files, but they clearly contain tons of raw investigative materials of dubious reliability/value […] for example Data Set 7 contains *unlabeled files* comprising hundreds of pages of 2019 Alex Acosta deposition transcripts […] the transcripts are chucked (and are published out of order!) in like a bunch of mixed crap in a shoebox.
    […]
Jesus. The Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation.

Raw materials include boxy pages from the FBI National Threat Operations Center, of anonymous complaints. Those contained bogus tips they were obligated to record (especially in years after Epstein’s crimes became public knowledge), mixed with legitimate testimony. The “calendar girls” auction was from one of those pages.

It is a huge stinking pile of excrement, but it is not all and it is not the worst:
    http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/sarah-k-burris/116100/not-all-they-have-epstein-survivors-lawyer-says-doj-didn-t-release-everything
At a press conference on Friday, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said that the 3.5 million files released were all the department had. He now believes that the DOJ has completed its review of the Epstein files.
CNN host Boris Sanchez asked lawyer Arick Fudali if the release was, indeed, “everything DOJ has in its possession.”
“Absolutely not. No, it’s not everything,” Fudali answered. “And even what has been produced still has redactions. You know, there are some very alarming statements from the Department of Justice today discussing what they’ve withheld and what they’ve redacted.”

    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/1/30/2366386/-Trump-s-incompetent-DOJ-makes-a-mess-of-latest-Epstein-files-drop?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=more_recent_news&pm_medium=web
    by Lisa Needham

According to Blanche, after releasing 3 million of the 6 million Epstein files, the DOJ’s work here is done.
Put another way, the DOJ doesn’t have the leeway to decide whether something in its possession is relevant or meaningful enough to include.
Rather, the law directs the DOJ to release “all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in the possession of the Department of Justice, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Attorneys’ Offices” relating to eight broad categories, including literally everything about Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

It’s not only capitalism. Any system that has a “top”, will eventually see it populated by people who have a massively inflated sense of their self-worth, with all the outright evil behaviors that that implies.

I reply: sad but true. From what I see Crapitallism just facilitates the huge egos in acquiring wealth and power so they can climb over and abuse everyone else. I personally value egalitarianism and try to be ‘less so’.

  19. JM says

@14 rrhain: I’m sure there is some stuff in there isn’t true. It contains long lists of accusations collected against Epstein, some are exaggerations by victims that remember it as worse then it was, some are from victims making up things to accuse Epstein of and it’s possible some are entirely bogus. If the DOJ was organized they would have moved some of the worst bogus accusations to the front for release exactly because they can discredit the entire disclosure, but that would require a level of planning and organization the political leaders of the DOJ have rarely shown.

  20. says

    JM @24:

In a slightly less emotional context, “Record Company Executive X didn’t steal royalties from Starving Band Y, so the accusations that the entire record industry routinely rips off musicians must be false, too.” (Umm, having been professionally involved there for decades, “routinely” is an understatement — which does not necessarily mean that every musician is victimized that way, marrying the record-label president sure seems to help.) That’s just the inverse of the Big Lie strategy: If all of these little things are proven false, the big thing must be false, too.
