Hey, at least you have some monarchs/caterpillars. The lack of insects/arthropods in general around here have me worried and sad.

It’s nice to see even a few monarchs. I think I have seen one in the last 5 years.
As a child, a few years ago (cough, cough), I remember walking home from school on a dirt country road and encountering a cloud of them where recent roadwork had let an area of ground to be taken over by milkweed.
It is wonderful news to hear the caterpillars are thriving.

I wish I’d seen more monarchs around here. As it is, I saw hardly any miller moths this year. The May/June migration is usually a highly noticeable event, but this year it was barely a trickle. I know the army cutworm (from whence springs the moth) can do a lot of damage to crops, so the farmers in Nebraska actively work against them, but the moths are food for bats, birds, and bears. Grizzlies in Yellowstone eat them by the truckload. The natural cycle just not working bothers me a great deal.
