I remember that video. I showed it to my wife, I then asked which bit she thought was the controversial bit. She said “the ‘guys don’t do that’ bit”.

    Dammit she was right

Yeah, one woman said “guys, don’t do that,” and thus the Slymepit was born. And the whole thing was made exponentially worse by Dawkins wading in with his unasked-for, uncaring and uninformed opinion.

I hope at least half of the guys who went apeshit over that eventually realized how shamefully asinine their words and actions had been.

Like Raging Bee, I hope at least half of those numpties have pulled their heads out by now, but I’m not that optimistic.

Nah, a bunch of those guys are still on the same bullshit, and the rest of them have moved even further right and rebranded as alt-right.

While there isn’t as clear a line from ElevatorGate to GamerGate as there is from GamerGate to today’s alt-right, I wouldn’t be surprised if most Slymers went on to support GG and then became at least MAGA-adjacent. I wouldn’t be surprised if a handful managed to get their heads on right, but if it was half I’d have to reconsider my disbelief in miracles.

I thought the way the cartoon drew their faces was interesting. Made me go back and look at some pics from that night lol.
