The results of yesterday’s primary elections are in.
Sarah Palin wasn’t laughed off the slate and moves on to the November election.
Cheney did not. She was beaten by a pro-Trump stooge.
It’s kind of amazing that a horrible criminal, misogynist, and racist still holds such an oppressive influence on politics in this country.
Nah, society was ready and he just showed the way.
Sarah Palin advances to the general election. This means more opportunities for her former in-laws to hold a fundraiser for her opponent.
With Alaska’s “rank choice” voting, Palin and Murkowski only had to be in the top 4 finishers of their respective races. Wyoming had a traditional party primary in which only the top vote-getter goes on to represent the party in the general election.
Told ya so.
Is it that amazing? This is a country colonized by Puritans and money grubbing merchants looking for literal cities made of gold. Our government was founded by a bunch of slave-owning shits who hijacked Enlightenment values because they wanted to get out of paying taxes for a previous war that kept them from becoming vassals of the France. We built America with the sweat and blood of captive Africans and other exploited labors over the mass graves of the Native Americans we murdered, always with the approval of Gawd’s earthly representatives. Racism, greed, and barbarism are baked into America’s cultural DNA.
As a result, this is a irredeemable shithole country, and most of its stupid, selfish, superstitious fools who infest it are utter garbage. The ascension of the Palins, Trumps, and other monsters to power was inevitable.
EDIT: from becoming vassals of
theFrance@5 If you ever find a nation filled that isn’t filled with racists and founded on atrocities by hypocrites, let us know so we can all go there ;)
Maybe it’s time we started one.
@8 Utopia always gets ruined when people try to live in it.
A better solution is to accept that we can’t change the past, regardless of how much we self-flagellate. Better still is to accept that, rather than being near-divine beings with a manifest historical destiny, people are lashed-together, barely functional gimcracks who are phenomenally lucky to not have wiped ourselves out in the last 100 years or so. Paradise is a long ways away considering what we have to work with, is my point.
It’s not to say that we should just give up trying, just that we need to manage our expectations and work with people as they are and not as we wish they were.
This is a nonpartisan primary.
The top two winners go to the general election in November.
It looks like Sarah Palin is likely to win the Alaska House seat.
The GOP vote was split between two Republicans.
The vote was 37.8% Democratic to 60.7% Republican.
It’s going to be hard to overcome a party lead like this.
Palin is the Marjorie Taylor Greene/Lauren Boebert of the north.
That pretty much sums it up and doesn’t say anything good about Alaska.
Sarah Palin moves on to the November election.
Yes, yes, yes! This is the only context where it is socially acceptable to laugh at stupid people making fools of themselves (I don’t like those reality shows where they drag mentally challenged people in front of a camera).
Trump still holds such power because he is criminal, misogynist, racist (and transphobic, xenophobic, and homophobic as well) not in spite of those things. Those are the things the core of the right in the US cares about more than anything else.
FWIW, PBS newshour has some good coverage of Liz Cheney’s defeat and her possible Presidential run here :

@ 9. Susan Montgomery : “@8. (Akira MacKenzie) Utopia always gets ruined when people try to live in it.”
We may never attain an absolute Utopia but we sure can get a lot closer to it and improve things in so many ways if we actually try and keep trying to progress and make things better, fairer, more compassionate and so on.
@14 Indeed – I did close my last statement with just that sentiment. I think that we need to be a tad more realistic about what we’re up against.
