Hey, how about some local good news for a change?

Incremental progress exists, and I should acknowledge that now and then.

  • Morris is implementing organics pick-up! The county is collecting food waste from local grocery stores and restaurants for composting. It’s a drop in the bucket, but a good step.
  • This is impressive: Alexandria (a city about 45 minutes north of me) is partnering the police with mental health professionals to put the right people in charge of handling citizens having mental health crises. Imagine: someone having a breakdown and the city response is not to send an unqualified thug with a gun charging in to do battle.

We’re taking baby steps in the right direction, let’s keep it up.

Half of liberal America says it’s too little to bother with and the other half says “mission accomplished, let’s stop thinking about it”.

We put too much emphasis on grand gestures. It’s why the media freaks out when a billionaire does charity and all of a sudden it’s all the news in the world when in reality they could do that every other day of the week and still afford a yacht that contains a smaller yacht for the servants.

Your state also has the non-profit organisation SaveaFox that looks after foxes saved from fur farms and former pets whose owners no longer wanted to keep them.
Considering the appalling way agribusiness treats animals it is heartwarming to see how happy and lively the foxes are in their new environment.

Oh my gosh! Have you been lying to us about where you live?!? Because Alexandria is northeast of Morris! :)

I tease. I’ve stopped at Alexandria a few times when returning to Iowa from North Dakota as it tends to be where my car gets low on gas (as well as just being a good stop before reaching the Twin Cites) when I’m taking a more northern route as opposed to going through Appleton. So I know where it is at and it seemed it wasn’t quite correct that it would be north of you.

In seriousness, that is good new indeed! It’s news I wouldn’t necessarily expect to come out of Alexandria. If you haven’t seen it, Cody Johnston discussed this happening in other places as well in the latest episode of Some More News.

As he explained just the other day, his back yard stretches all the way to the twin cities.

those small things indicate cultural change they happen all most invisibly just out of the lime light. Little things like that are really big things because they are coming from the bottom up

I love watching SaveAFox videos! They are a simple way to get an uplifting buzz. And I have followed the folks there long enough to realize just how dedicated and hard working they are, which gives another jolt of happiness.

Then I certainly don’t envy the times he has to mow his lawn.

This is not strictly local news, but watching Alex Jones go super-sayan is hilarious.

So we have alien satanic something something and Trump has joined their team because he has taken the vaccine …which destroys your immune response?

Incredibly large back yards to small houses is a staple of Fantasy stories with magic gates.
It sounds like the back yard somehow got looped through Narnia before coming out at the cities.
