The bigots who want to know what’s in children’s pants are on the wrong side of history

“What about the children?” they cry. We all know they don’t give a good god damn about the children. It’s all about controlling the children and forcing them to think one way and one way only.

Cody is rather more eloquent than I am on this issue.

These assholes have managed to poison the language — I see someone touting “family!” or “save the children!” I pretty much know they’re actually against those things and are screaming coded versions of “patriarchy!” and “abuse the children!”

It occurred to me that I have an answer for people who ask–“What is the wrong side of history, anyway?” I’ve decided that my answer is that the wrong side of history is the stuff like this that will be erased by future “1776 Initiative” and similar efforts of white washing. This is disgusting, and will be such an embarrassment that no one in their lineage of bigots will admit it was ever a thing.

    Same thing with “patriot”.
    Same thing with “fiscal conservative”.

Orwell had a lot to say about how language is used by authoritarians in 1984. We have our own version of Newspeak, used mostly by the heirs of the Party, the GOP.

I am not sure immediately looking at a post about trans and ‘family value’ issues and changing the subject twice is an idea way to start a thread.

To quote two recent memes, since I can’t embed an image:

“You can help make Transgender kids happy and healthy, or you can make Transgender kids miserable and isolated.

You cannot make Transgender kids cis.”

    .

“The only ones trying to brainwash Transgender kids are bigots who try to convince them that they’re cis.”

They know full well what denial of care will do: increase the rates of suicide amongst children. During April, four Transgender kids in Arkansas tried to kill themselves after a “law” was enacted. It’s what the far right, TERFs, and other bigoted trash want to happen.

“Biden has your back”? Thus far, it’s only to push Trans kids under the bus. I haven’t seen any effort to counter or remove the bigoted “laws” being rammed through by republicans.

The War on Trans Kids Is Totally Unconstitutional
States do not have a defensible reason for denying children recommended medical care.

The most obvious, and compelling, constitutional objection to Arkansas’s Save Adolescents From Experimentation (SAFE) Act and laws like it arises from the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection under the law. That guarantee means, among other things, that a state government may not target one group of residents for discriminatory treatment arising from animus, dislike, or irrational fear.

Adam Serwer: The Republican Party finds a new group to demonize

Since the 1970s, the Supreme Court has consistently rejected moral disapproval of a particular group of individuals as a constitutionally legitimate basis for imposing targeted legal burdens on the group. Thus, when Congress attempted to, in the Court’s assessment, “prevent so-called ‘hippies’ and ‘hippie communes’ from participating in the food stamp program,” the Supreme Court unanimously struck down the ban for otherwise eligible “hippies.” In U.S. Department of Agriculture v. Moreno, decided in 1973, Justice William J. Brennan Jr. wrote, “If the constitutional conception of ‘equal protection of the laws’ means anything, it must, at the very least, mean that a bare congressional desire to harm a politically unpopular group cannot constitute a legitimate governmental interest.”

This bedrock equal-protection principle has endured over time.

On the bright side, these laws targeting trans children are likely to be unconstitutional.

They violate the 14th amendment principle of equal protection under the laws.

We have to re-invent language. Family is one of those words – like patriotism- that has been used and misused a billion times.”Family” ranks up there with “purity” as a word that means “what follows is reactionary BS”.

birgerjohansson@9 Maybe we can start saying Ohana instead. “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” (Lilo and Stitch)

They do this again and again. They need to scare their base into voting for them.
First it was the scary n*ggers.
Then it was the Messicsns coming over the border.
And there are a lot of other minorities around that can be demonized and used to scare their base.
    .
Anything related to sex and gender is emotionally charged, so of course they sacrifice transgender kids in the race for another couple of points of voter turnout.
    .
And the bosses themselves usually don’t care much about the issues, they only care that they work. These cynics are far more hate-worthy than the bigoted rubes they manipulate.
