Who is more popular in their home country, Putin or Trump?

We’ve got less than half the information we need to figure that out. Here, for instance, is how people react to a Putin portrait in a Moscow elevator.

Now someone needs to do a similar stunt with a Trump portrait in a New York elevator. Well, maybe New York isn’t the best choice — it’ll get shredded. A Chicago elevator?

At least I think we can safely agree that they’re both polarizing figures.

I’m down. I got the camera. I just need a location. Also a bullet proof case for the painting because I live in Portland, OR. But I do know just the place to do this. There’s a couple of mass transit stations here that have elevators. That would provide a perfect slice of the population and local demographics.

In fact I know the exact elevator I would use. The 60th and Gleason Trimet MAX stop. Twelve years ago I used that elevator to haul my bike down to the MAX platform on New Years Day, and only after the door shut did I realize someone had taken a dump in there. Sounds like the perfect location for a portrait of America’s Greatest Shithead.

Sounds like the perfect place for a large obtrusive portrait of DJT, right? I haven’t used that station in about two years, but I’m sure it’s pretty skeezy.

What I thought was most interesting was that many of the people were not reacting so much to the poster per se, but immediately suspected they were being surveilled, and looked for hidden cameras or bugs. While ignoring the visible camera at the ceiling.

Dang! I know a woman who lives in Moscow, and the woman who genuflected is a ringer for her. I had to advance frame-by-frame to get a good view of her face. It wasn’t her.

If there were a portrait of Cheetolini in a Chicago elevator there will soon after be hidden camera footage of me pissing on it.

It’s… suspicious how many people just start talking to themselves… Almost like they know that they’re being recorded..

  7. wzrd1 says

@7, don’t do that! Urine runs and pools all over the place. What is needed is something that sticks…

  8. Snarki, child of Loki says

When facing the Putin photo (all alone in the elevator), ignore the camera, pull your chin pensively, and say “I wonder if Vladimir knows that is secretly betraying him?”

    Shrug and leave.

  9. Snarki, child of Loki says

“…knows that Mr. X (Putin crony) is secretly…”

Russian hackers ate what I put in angle brackets. That’s my story and I’m sticking too it.

I think our Vlad is got his eye on turning Russia into a monarchy again ,Vlad the first .
Got quite the ring to it .And on the subject of the snatch snatcher ,anyone seen the photo
of him with his hair in more of a mess than usual due to the high wind ,you can see the white
skin that is normally covered by the hair ,makes his fake tan stick out a mile .

I’m sure people in Russia assume they’re being recorded on CCTV most of the time (as people here should be.) Everyone who enters the elevator seems self-conscious. It would be nice to think that the woman genuflecting before the portrait is doing it sarcastically.

re davidc1 @14: You do know that The Orange Toddler-Tyrant has accused the “fake media” of posting a photoshopped image, don’t you?

  13. tacitus says

The sad thing is that many American Trump supporters would trade him for Putin in a heartbeat — a fascist who isn’t a complete buffoon. What’s not to like…?

  14. zenlike says

Who the hell would think it a good idea to invade peoples privacy in this way? And in an autocracy even, where people with the “wrong” reaction can face real and horrific consequences?

How could one think anything else?

No reason you could not send her the link and congratulate her on here performance. :)

Admittedly I am out of the loop but I haven’t heard anything this subversive since Guerrillas in The Mist by Paris. This comes straight outta that elevator with the Putin portrait:

That is frickin’ angry stuff right there! Kinda makes me wanna dust off the Public Enemy CDs.

@16 Yes i have seen that ,but he would say that wouldn’t he .
I see the morons at his last rally chanted lock her up when he mentioned Nancy P .
