I have to go with my first thought upon reading the text and seeing the associated picture:

    FUCK YOU MYERS!!!!! *fist shake*

  2. Gregory Greenwood says

    ooh, pretty…

… but wait – I’m a bloke. And a straight bloke at that. I shouldn’t like that flower, what with it not being a manly shade of forget-me-not blue.

Oh teh noes! All the gender role stereotypes are crashing down around my ears! What have I done? What about the social gender expectations that evopsych types like Radford tell us are so important and not-at-all-sexist? Once they fall, how long before civilisation follows?

When we all eating one another’s brains in a post apocalyptic, irradiated wasteland, just remember – it’s all my fault…

It’s your fault regardless of what happens.

  4. Curious Chloride says

I see what you did there…..

Although despite all the recent discussions, it still took me several seconds to get the joke.

  5. 'Tis Himself, OM. says

Weird how it evolved a color so close to skin tone.

  6. Mattir says

Wait a minute – feralboy has discovered that plants use female humans as pollinators? Wow.

  7. Happiestsadist says

    It’s floofy! I like it.

I wonder what colour genderqueers are supposed to be irresistibly biologically drawn to? Purple?

(I kid, gender is irrelevant or possibly nonexistent to Ev-Psy jackasses. There is only sex and the roles laid out in the ancient days of the 1950s.)

That said, I like pink. It makes me happy. It’s why most of my tattoos have some pink in them (which somehow is visible on my equally pink-in-that-it’s not-green skin), and my hair was for a while. I miss it.

  8. ambassadorfromverdammt says

From an ev-psycho point of view, doesn’t this prove that it must have been teh ladies who tended the paleolithic flower beds?

  9. DLC says

    what picture,I just see a grey blob . . . Evo-Psych says so!
Why, evolutionary mental pressure from the 1950s demands I not see the pink puffball. Next up, it’ll explain why humans buy more blue cars than red. . . except it won’t.

  10. DLC says

Well, Boys have to buy blue cars, and girls have to buy red ones, but only because Pink is reserved for Mary Kay distributors.

  11. Classical Cipher, Murmur Muris, OM says

feralboy, that’s twice in twenty-four hours you’ve made me laugh out loud. You are on a roll :)

  12. shouldbeworking says

I always wanted a green sports car and at my age, everyone is younger than me. At least that’s what my ‘loving’ daughters tell me. They just don’t want me to spend their inheritance.

  13. Friendly says

“Botanical”? This is what happens when you overload the Fuzzy Pumper Barber & Beauty Shop with too much pink Play-Doh and then mash too hard on the pump.

  14. SteveV says

    I don’t get it.
Why should a pink feather duster appeal to the ladies?
Have they elvolved to like housework?

  15. Irene Delse says

Come on, PZ, tell us the truth: the Trophy Wife (TM) helped you choose today’s pic! A bloke can’t possibly have such fine colour recognition.

  16. 'Tis Himself, OM. says

A bloke can’t possibly have such fine colour recognition.

Too true. Men only see 16 colors, like the basic Windows® color palate. Shades and nuances are unknown to men. Peach is a fruit. Pumpkin is a squash. Who knows what mauve is. :-þ

Although despite all the recent discussions, it still took me several seconds to get the joke.

I finally get the joke of your name! :-)

What did PZ do to that doll’s head?

    Thread won.

    A decade.

  19. piero says

I get a weird optical illusion: the background colours surrounding the flower keep shrinking… Is it just me? Is it time for a vist to the ophthalmologist?

  20. magistramarla says

I guess that I am REALLY not the stereotype woman that the GOTP thinks all women are. I glanced at the picture, went “meh” and didn’t even bother to look at the comments. I’m not into most flowers, and especially not into pink at all.
When my hubby came home, he was the one who pointed out to me what PZ was up to – it would have sailed right over my head! Does this mean that I’m a female with male tendencies – oh no!

  21. shouldbeworking says

    @33. Don’t forget, teal is a waterfowl.

@38, don’t mention your concerns to your husband. You and he may really have issues then.

Pfft. While feralboy12 was cracking wise, I demonstrated for the nth time to my cat that there was no Chupacabra hiding underneath my copy of Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman.

So, feralboy12 can have his Molly (in fact, it’s a glaring oversight that he doesn’t yet have one), but we all know who’re the real skeptics around here.

  23. carolw says

When are they going to make pretty black flowers? That’s my color preference. Chew on that, evo-psyhcos.

  24. yellowsubmarine says

That looks like a firework mid-explosion to me, which is rather neat imo. But I would be just as happy had it been blue.

  25. Margaret says

    @Caine, Fleur du Mal

It’s trying to get teh ladies to snuggle up to it.

So all the heterosexual men are now going to wear pink in an attempt to get teh ladies to snuggle up to them?

  26. 'Tis Himself, OM. says

Darn, I’m wearing a blue shirt and beige trousers. No snuggling for me. :-(

  27. Gregory Greenwood says

Note to self – buy some pink clothes…

    @ 6 you said;

It’s your fault regardless of what happens.

Does this mean that your non-snuggled state is my fault too? If so, I am really sorry, it was not my intent to snuggle-block you, honest.

    ;-)

At least not with the ladies.
