I’m having bad acid flashbacks, man

It’s never going to end — Ben Stein’s voice still makes me grind my teeth (oh, wait — Stein’s voice did that to me even before he made Expelled). Now here’s another parody of his horrible little movie, with a little name check of yours truly in there.

  1. Zeno says

Ben Stein is currently appearing with Shaquille O’Neal in a commercial for Comcast. Stein says, “As an economist, I know about being smart with my money.” Given his failure to recognize the nature of the housing bubble, his economic smarts are questionable. And he also compared Obama’s 2008 Democratic convention speech to a Hitler rally (Stein doesn’t have a broad repertory.)

It sure doesn’t make me want to subscribe to Comcast — or anything else that Ben Stein is selling.

  2. PeteJohn says

    Wow. That was good.

Zeno: I think I’ve gained insight into Stein’s brain. Don’t like something/being paid to not like something? IT’S LIKE ADOLF HITLER!!! Yeah! Boom, I win.

    “Bueller… Bueller…”

Jeebus! I was eating breakfast! So much for my appetite.

I know it’s parody, but the fact of Ben Stein’s very existence spoils my appetite. How could so many give credence to somebody so blatantly sleazy?

  4. Rev. BigDumbChimp says

If you have some B-12, go ahead and take that.

Alright, PZ, just listen. Everything is going to be fine. You’re very high right now. You will probably be that way for about five more hours. Try taking some vitamin B complex, vitamin C complex.. if you have a beer, go ahead and drink it..

  5. Rutee, Shrieking Harpy of Dooooom says

It sure doesn’t make me want to subscribe to Comcast — or anything else that Ben Stein is selling. It’s a fittingly bad spokesperson for a bad service.

  6. David Marjanović says

“Accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior or else you’re a satanic Nazi!”

And read the credits at the end. And the word written on the blackboard by wiping the other stuff out…

  7. Glen Davidson says

Do not question testicles, especially forcibly.

It is unbelievable that people died for our country, only for spherical (oblate spheroidal, for the pedants) earthers to disallow questioning of their dogma.

And of course they won’t teach the truth in history classes, that Nazi Germany started precisely because spherical earth dogma was forcibly fed to schoolchildren. Go ahead, find me a single German school that allowed flat earthers to question the ancient Ptolemaic BS about a “round earth.”

So of course that brought Hitler to popwer.

Is the little boy in the film (Elijah Behe) related to the other Behe, I wonder???

  9. tastyrerun says

As I understand it, Elijah Behe is actually the great-grandfather of Michael Behe thanks to a rather humorous accident involving a time machine, a toaster strudel, a goat, and Eva Braun’s cousin Lulubelle…

  10. PJ Dietz says

Another Comcast commercial with Stein and Shaq introduced them as “The best and the smartest.” Does anyone actually still think Ben Stein is smart?

  11. Qwerty says

The video appears to have been pulled as I keep getting the “try later” message.

Rev BDC – Should PZ have some bacon with the beer and B complex? Also, you’ve managed a post without a typo. Impressive!

If we’ve told you once, Dr. Myers, we’ve told you a dozen times…

If you won’t stay off the nitric acid, those trips are going to recur.

  13. Matt Penfold says

    Qwerty,

I get the same when I tried to view it embedded here, but I can see it OK direct at YouTube.

  14. arrakis says

I love how many of the books in the kid’s room were written by Terry Pratchett. Nice touch.

  15. Qwerty says

“Do not question golf balls.” I’ve seen the start, but it stalls. Anyhow, “the stork theory” spoof was funnier as they actually use footage of Stein.

In a previous post, someone commented that Ben Stein will visit Penn State. In Stein’s bio for the visit, he neglects to mention “Expelled.”

    Is he embarrassed? Or what?

  16. toth says

Stein’s Comcast commercials make me want to vomit. I really wish I didn’t have to subscribe to Comcast. Every time I call them, I’m treated to Shaq’s and Stein’s voices greeting me. Blargh.

Aww, now you’ve made me feel very old, because not only do I know exactly what you’re quoting, I remember watching it live!

  18. 'Tis Himself, OM says

You think the Earth is round like a balloon? That’s just stupid talk. It would have taken gawd a lot longer than a week to blow up a balloon the size of the Earth. And look at a galaxy. It’s flat. Why would planets be round and galaxies flat? You scientists only think the Earth is round because physicists assume everything is round. It’s just an assumption to make the math easier. There are PYGMIES + DWARFS because they’re closer to flat than other people. Sit on that, round earthers.

Does anyone actually think Shaq is still the best basketball player?

    Comcast: totally mediocre all around.

Dr. Richard “PZ” Darwin, wow, can you get any more evil. I’ll bet he eats babies on that so called “round” earth of his.

    Hey!!!

  22. maxamillion says

Was that supposed to be funny?

I got a far as Elijah Behe and stopped.

Not one laugh, or is that the joke, comedy without a laugh?

  23. DLC says

According to Dr House on TV, a massive dose of anti-depressants will clear up the acid trip pretty quick. of course, it’s only a TV drama, and not really a valid source of medical information, but hey, neither is Ben Stein a valid source of information.

  24. Knockgoats says

According to Dr House on TV, a massive dose of anti-depressants will clear up the acid trip pretty quick.

I understand they used to use benzodiazepene tranquillisers. Fine as long as you hadn’t taken 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine (known as DOM or STP) instead of LSD. Apparently more likely to cause a bad trip (probably because its slower onset led people to decide they hadn’t taken enough, and take some more), and benzodiazepenes potentiate it. Caution: this is not based on either peer-reviewed literature or personal experience, and could be a druggies’ urban myth.

  26. davej says

Uh, was that supposed to be funny if you maybe had seen the “Expelled” trailer or something? I think it needed more work.
