19th Century American writer Ambrose Bierce in his Devil’s Dictionary(easily found online)gave two definitions of homeopathy.

Homeopathy, n. A theory and practice of medicine which aims to cure the diseases of fools. As it does not cure them, and does sometimes kill the fools, it is ridiculed by the thoughtless, but commended by the wise.

-A school of medicine midway between Allopathy and Christian Science. To the last both the others are distinctly inferior, for Christian Science will cure imaginary diseases, and they cannot.

  2. says

Quackery and so-called alternative medicine makes me sad, even when we can laugh at it.

The bit how that piece opens reminds me of someone I care for, alas.
