Final vote tally

Dave Wasserman has been painstakingly keeping tabs on the vote counting in all the states and DC and yesterday he announced that all the certified tallies are finally in. And the official result?

Barack Obama got 65,899,557 (51.06%) votes while Mitt Romney got 60,931,959 (47.21%) votes. So Mitt’s infamous 47% figure will be associated with him even more strongly and will likely appear in his obituary and should even be graven on his tombstone.

Wasserman gives the breakdown state-by-state and even by counties. He also has the 2008 results for comparison.

It is true the US is a big country with a complicated voting system but it still seems odd to me that it took nearly two months for all the votes to be officially certified. The system really needs to be improved.

Mano, I like your blog and often comment here, but recently my comments have been failing to appear. Is this a technical problem? have I been banned? My most recent post was about the demise of the Blasphemy law in the UK on the post about the blasphemy law in Greece.

I am not sure what the problem is. You have definitely not been banned. I have not banned anyone, in fact!

Since we switched to the new system, there have been some complaints about comments being ‘swallowed’. Since this one of yours appeared, I am hoping that problem has disappeared.

If comments don’t appear, just shoot me an email and I’ll investigate.
