Yay, fruit bats! I’ve been fascinated by bats of all kinds ever since I was a little kid (and I’m in my mid-40s now).

Awwww….spectacled flying foxes. Look at those cheeky little faces. *composes self* Yes. Nice photo. Jolly good. Carry on.

It would be so cool if these critters could pick up on the game of fetch.

Just imagine throwing something like a shuttlecock or a paper airplane and having it returned by wing to your shoulder.

If I ever get the opportunity, I’m a’gonna try.

I know some readers are here in Florida, and if you’re near Gainesville, you might want to check out the Lubee Foundation (http://www.batconservancy.org/), which is a private group just north of the town. It’s not open to the public most of the time, but it has an open house around Halloween (was this past Saturday, unfortunately) where you can see many large and small bats. Seeing these 6′ wingspan bats flying around is a real treat!

I love flying foxes. Were it practical to keep one as a pet, I totally would.
