The Prayer Activist

Gonna get me a pen and a paper
Gonna write to the head of the board
I’ll tell him, in schools
The majority rules,
So each day they should pray to the Lord

Gonna get me some paint and a placard
Gonna make me a beautiful sign
And I’ll make myself heard
While defending The Word—
The opinion that matters is mine!

Gonna write to my members of Congress
Gonna reach anyone I can reach
Cos school prayer is a right
That’s deserving of fight!
It’s a matter of freedom of speech!

Gonna get me a laptop computer
Gonna blog me a story today
I’ll scream it; I’ll shout it,
I’ll rant it; I’ll pout it,
I’ll spew it and spout it
No reason to doubt it—
The fact that I don’t know a damned thing about it
I’ll never let get in my way.

This is not the verse I was intending to write. The last verse came first, and was inspired by this guy, who has a history of writing about stuff he knows nothing about. I commented on this piece before there were any comments at all; strangely, my comment has yet to be approved. (Basically, all I did was say “asked and answered“.)

But verses have lives of their own. I started the last verse, then had to leave to drive Cuttlespouse to the airport, and by the time I came back to finish, the verse had decided it wasn’t about the pinhead any more.

Maybe some other time.

  1. Cuttlefish says

He always does; doesn’t stop him. I’m guessing he gets paid more for saying stupid things than for smart things.

  2. says

Well, not only did your comment eventually pass moderation, but there is a response to it asking you to contact someone regarding writing a column. (Apparently)

  3. Cuttlefish says

Yeah, MadScutter–I did contact, and she said she’d get back to me on Monday… *checks watch* *checks calendar*

Good thing I didn’t decide to hold my breath.
