Of course, I’d rather buy the normal plush microbes to stick in the tree so I can keep displaying them all year long… But come on, how can you not love mononucleosis underneath some mistletoe?! So adorable.

PS: I think Jeph’s doing a pretty good job of presenting Dora’s behavior as being due to a combination of genuine and realistic psychological issues she still needs to resolve, and her having internalized ambient cultural biases about women being emotional and irrational and finding validation, or at least a dampening of what should be red flags, in it.

Ooh, I want a holiday brain cell! They _do_ tend to get killed off around that time…I recently had to give a big immunology talk, and my husband gave me a plush white blood cell for good luck. It’s staring at me right now. It has an oddly eager/helpful/dim expression on its ‘face’ – ‘Can I kill sumpin for you, Boss?’

I took my 11 year old niece & her friend shopping – they debated long and hard on whether to buy the HPV fuzzy or the E COLI fuzzy for their friend’s birthday. Great way to introduce kids to biology.

those are about the cutest things ever. can i confess something? i’ve always confused the term “plushie” with the sexual culture of people who put on fur or faux fur suits before having sex, commonly known as ‘furries.’ whenever people use that word i ‘go there’ in my mind. i’m not a furry, in fact they’ve always confused me a bit, for all i’m 100% in favor of any and all kinks between consenting adults. but still, i read people talking about plushies and i wonder if they are secret or not so secret furries. it’s a very odd sub-culture and if i were still doing anthro i’d write a paper about them.

I have about 15 or so different plush microbes flying around my house and classroom at any given time. Last night I was tossing Ebola at my daughters while we were watching a movie….I also use them for hallpasses and as funny mailbox stuffers for fellow teachers. They always seem to know where they’ve come from – wonder why!?!??!
