Alarming!

WP says:

An outspoken critic of Tunisia’s Islamist government was shot dead outside his home Wednesday, underscoring a deepening political rift between newly empowered Islamists and their secular opposition in states across North Africa since the Arab Spring.

Chokri Belaid, an opposition leader with the leftist Popular Front coalition, was assassinated in Tunis a day after he received the latest in a string of death threats and called for a national conference on political violence.

Critics of Islamists or Islam get killed, exiled, imprisoned, silenced. Sometimes I feel that soon or later the world will turn into a ‘land of Islam.’

@1, Yes, you are a horrible threat. Any group of people who feel that some supreme being is backing them and set out to do this supreme beings work is a serious threat to their fellow humans. Throughout history the followers of supreme beings have committed the most barbarous acts against their fellow human beings and right now Islamists are leading the pack in barbarism.

It’s time to abandon your bronze age bullshit.

Don’t worry too much. There’s a strong counter-push in the Arab world against the failures of Islamism. It’s still on young legs, but I think democracy and rights are a long time in coming there, and history is on the side of the youth in this fight, even if it will be ugly for a while. Let’s keep up the support for our friends over in north africa and the middle east!

As for religious fundamentalism’s influence on US culture, that I’m not so optimistic about…
