Even mobsters don’t want to be jerks

I have written before that the philosophy “Don’t be a jerk” is a simple, straightforward, easy-to-understand-and-implement one because jerk behavior is almost always obvious, and this cartoon supports it.

This is also another example of how the name ‘Bob’ seems to be the go-to one for a cartoon character.

I’m reminded of a story I heard relating to the homelessness population in Las Vegas. The reporter mentioned that the mobsters had been kicked out of the casino business, which then became corporations, with shareholders and boards of directors. The reporter offered that when the mob ran the casinos, they wouldn’t (quite) take every last dime, and would give you a bus ticket home. Corporations, being even less empathetic than the mob, abandoned that protocol, milking their marks for every last bit of money they had, leaving them penniless and stranded in Vegas, homeless.

Nice to see that you reject scientific conclusions -- in this case psychology.
People hardly ever see themselves as jerks; they are very good at finding justifications, meaning that they are not jerks.
And that includes you and me.
In fact that’s the message of the (indeed funny) cartoon …..
