I have written extensively about the fact that the Republican party is increasingly out-of-step with what the country is thinking, especially as a result of demographic changes and that its main problem is that its base has been fed a steady diet of rhetoric against women, minorities, immigrants, and LGBT groups for so long that taking that food away from them is likely to provoke howls of anger.
Bill Maher has a pretty good analysis of another reason why the Republican party is in trouble and that is because it is beholden to people like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck who, while ostensibly Republican party supporters, care more about making money off the rubes than in helping the party win.

Funny. But I’m not sure the Republican party is in the “dire straits” that Maher says it is.

It’s quite a lot like a cult, isn’t it?
