Carrying on with the “let’s keep things lighthearted” theme, let’s ask what is wrong with white people.

Police shootings of unarmed African Americans. Acts of domestic terrorism by white supremacists. The renewed embrace of raw, undisguised white-identity politics. Unending racial inequity in schools, housing, criminal justice, and hiring. Some of this feels new, but in truth it’s an old story.

Not to mention all the genocide. It’s kind of a theme with us, either the doing or the encouraging of it.

Why? Where did the notion of “whiteness” come from? What does it mean? What is whiteness for?

Scene On Radio’s “Seeing Whiteness” tries to answer those questions. Not only do they pull off a great job, they frame it so gently that easily frightened white people might be able to stomach it. I recommend a listen.

Also, Innuendo Studios has an equally excellent video about “white fascism.” It’s a bit of a tangent, as the emphasis is on the second half of the term, but it nonetheless lives up to the title. I’ve touched on this one in an earlier post, but I think it deserves a higher profile.
