He’s always been this revoltingly racist, but somehow he got elected, because a lot of the citizenry are revoltingly racist.
Trump lied. Back in 2018, it was reported that he used the phrase “shithole countries” to describe various nations of brown people, and he denied it, claiming that he [n]ever said anything derogatory about Haitians.
He was quite vehement about it, issuing repeated denials, claiming that this was another Democratic effort to discredit him.
That was then. Now, in 2025, open racism is fine and popular.
Trump, Dec. 9: I’ve also announced a permanent pause on Third World migration, including from hellholes like Afghanistan, Haiti, Somalia and many other countries.
Audience member: Shithole.
Trump: I didn’t say shithole, you did. [Laughter.] Remember, I said that to the senators. They came in, the Democrats. They wanted to be bipartisan. So, they came in, and they said this is totally off the record. Nothing mentioned here. We wanted to be honest, because our country was going to hell, and we had a meeting and I say, “why is it we only take people from shithole countries,” right? Why can’t we have some people from Norway, Sweden — just a few — let us have a few, from Denmark. Do you mind sending us a few people? Send us some nice people, do you mind? But we always take people from Somalia, places that are a disaster, right? Filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.
Two things about that speech. I avert my eyes from Trump typically, because I despise him so much and am sick of seeing him every goddamn day, and I instead focus on the gawping baboons in the claque behind him. Where do these people come from? What is wrong with them, that they would laugh and cheer at such ignorant remarks? These are the people who would attend a lynching and pose for photographs with the corpse afterwards. They are the monsters in our own backyard. We’ve got all this facial recognition technology that is currently used to track down people who oppose fascism; every one of these videos ought to be labeled with the names of the people performing hatefully in them: like, “at 1:18, Ralph Goonburger of Altoona, PA howls joyfully at a racist remark,” just so future generations can appreciate the contributions these otherwise unnamed citizens are making to the culture.
The other thing is that I, personally, am descended from immigrants from Norway and Sweden (and also England). Much of the history of my family in the 19th century was generation after generation of people from Norway bringing in new wives from Sweden and raising big families on frigid farms far from the mainstream population, creating kids with thick accents to work as farm laborers. We managed to avoid the worst of the general bigotry because it was displaced to more obvious targets — African and Asian peoples — but we had much in common in our circumstances with the Somalis and Hmong who followed along later. The only grounds for singling us out as “nice people” (we are nice people!) is the color of our skin. I cringe to see my tribe brought to the front of the room to be presented to the class as one of the good ones, setting us in opposition to our fellow, equally worthy, equally valuable citizens as somehow better. We aren’t. They aren’t lesser.
It’s ironic that he’s been complaining bitterly about Minnesota lately, a state where we acutely aware of and proud of our makeup as a blending of Scandinavian and German immigrants, with a good population of Native Americans (who we are embarrassed to say were treated shamefully by the state), which has been welcoming to other immigrant populations from Africa and Asia. We do have horrible racists living here, but generally, we’re conscious of them and try to do better.
What he was saying was simply blatant bigotry. That’s our president, the racist-in-chief.
It must be because of his German ancestry. We should work harder to keep those people out.

Why would anyone from Norway, Sweden, or Denmark want to move to the USA?
They have functioning wealthy societies with Universal health care, low cost universities, and are also wealthy.
They make the current USA look like a failing hellhole that I’m stuck living in.
There is an obvious reason for that.
People from the Third world and disaster areas are the only people desperate enough to want to come to the racist, failing USA.
At least no one is shooting at them here every day.
Every once in a while sure, but not every day.
There are after all, levels even in hells.
“…the gawping baboons in the claque behind him.”
This is something that always irritate me when some speeches or statements are given in the US: One person talks, and a bunch of people just stand behind them without any contribution. Why did this behaviour develop? Are American speakers so insecure that they need some human staffage for their arguments? I would find it weird and embarrising to be on stage like this.
Trump and the GOP/fundie xians have made the USA into such a hellhole that a huge number of young people now want to leave.
It is 40% for younger women and 19% for younger men.
Trump and MAGA aren’t making America great.
They are making America into something so dysfunctional and horrible that almost half of all young women don’t want to live here.
And good luck with trying to emigrate.
After we finish abusing the rest of the world, who is going to want a bunch of American refugees trying to move in?
If they think there’s an issue with refugees now wait till they see what Global Overheating brings them :
https://www.chrismadden.co.uk/cartoon-gallery/?s=Refugees+Climate+change+
Oh plus more wars and wars becoming more common due to Global Overheating and its consequences..
Klansmen and other white Supremacists used to have to hide their identities becuase they knew they’d be shunned and face consequences for their disgusting evil racism. They used to fear being exposed for what they are..
Now?
Not so much.
They’ve become normalised, accepted, tolerated to a sickening degree and are a symptom that their nation is sick indeed.
I grew up thinking nazis and the KKK were history. Ugly villains of history relegated to the metaphorical trashbin of that. I didn’t think they’d ever make a come back and return or take ever more power and rise again to the level of threat and dominance that they now have in the USoA.
I am so horrified & appalled that I was so very wroing about that.
This is so disturbing.
This is NOT okay.
2) @strangerinastrangeland: “One person talks, and a bunch of people just stand behind them without any contribution. Why did this behaviour develop?”
My guess is it’s an echo of a preacher preaching to the choir, which in churches often were behind him (rarely her), or to the side as background. Nazi-in-chief emulates that setup because he’s always preaching, not speaking.
re raven @1:
Exactly my thought when I first heard The Orange Turd spout it. He is infected with American Exceptionalism Syndrome and has no clue that there are countries in the world that treat their citizens WAY better than the US government does.
Via Zeteo How Somalis are Trolling Trump after ‘Garbage’ Comments Yt Short
In modern times, he KKK robes was kind of a vestige of Reconstruction Era racism, and that was to avoid prosecution not exposure. The Southern states were under Federal control and the US military might go after you. Scarlett O’Hara’s second husband, Frank Kennedy, dies in a KKK-style Shanty town raid that’s a trap by the Union army. The racist I knew growing up in the South in the 50s/60s had no fear of being exposed. Few of them wore robes at racist rallies to mask their identity in any way. If they wore robes it was kind of a ritual. There are plenty of photos of white men…and women…standing around the dead bodies of black men handing from trees and nary a robe in sight.
I trust you wrote that tongue-in-cheek. If not, we’ve got a bit of a problem. My mother was German. She was the most liberal, tolerant, non-racist person you could ever hope to meet. This notion that all contemporary Germans are tarnished by what their grandparents did needs to end. Young Germans in particular are sick of being tarred by the Nazi brush in the same way many young Southerners resent being shamed by their ggg-grandparents slave owning.
What’s ironic…?…about Trump’s bigotry, is that his grandfather and his father were affected by anti-German sentiment in the US. Both of them downplayed their German origins. Fred Trump even claimed his father was from Sweden apparently, and Don Dong repeated the claim in his book. There are other aspects of Frederick’s immigration to the US as told in Wikipedia that resonant with the current Trump, like Frederick was deemed a draft dodger by the German/Bavarian government.
But connecting the dots between Don’s experience and the effects of bigotry on other people isn’t likely to happen.
He’s not wearing a white robe because he’s been unable to source plausibly-deniable designer white robes from a suitably inexpensive
shithole countryless-developed-nation supplier to be relabelled for The Donald J. Trump Collection (at Macy’s near you). Plus white robes don’t stand up to the gold-plating process.Red hats are the new white hoods.
The ironic thing is that they actually wouldn’t want immigrants from Norway or Denmark because they would vote 90% Democrat where as they actually have a way higher chance of getting votes from immigrants from conservative and highly religious countries, if they were not so fucking racist.
In the above article tRUMP said: Do you mind sending us a few people? Send us some nice people, do you mind?
It is undeniable that this statement reeks of his megalomaniacal arrogance and dictatorial privilege. He obviously thinks that all governments (especially the despot: him) are free to send their citizens anywhere they want, anytime they want. That is proven by his DHS ahole noem and company kidnapping citizens here and sending them wherever they want with impunity.
This country is being murdered by these evil weasels!
The scariest part of this is that I, and apparently, others, have found no way to stop this DEATH SPIRAL!
PZ wrote ‘It must be because of his German ancestry. We should work harder to keep those people out. ‘
@10 John Watts wrote: This notion that all contemporary Germans are tarnished by what their grandparents did needs to end.
I reply: I must examine PZ’s statement in an objective analytical perspective. I know, and thoughtful people with integrity are compelled to agree, that country of origin or ancestry does not make you evil or racist. It is your own values system that determines whether you are a decent person or an ahole. One of the leaders in our organization is one of those people of germanic descent and they are as Watts said of his mother, ‘the most liberal, tolerant, non-racist person you could ever hope to meet.’
To put it in an honest and mature perspective, Ilhan Omar, from somalia is a very caring decent person.
And, again, a new headline – “Trump Wrings Laughs Out Of Somali Hate At Congressional Ball”
Where do these people come from? What is wrong with them, that they would laugh and cheer at such ignorant remarks?
As the Waco Kid said: “You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.”
How was somebody who is “revoltingly racist” elected by a majority of latino’s in states like Florida and Texas? Increasing latino support helped him in swing states as well; what are they not seeing or hearing? Hope its becoming less opaque to them now.
The sarcasm is by PZ is palpable; it’s not Teutonophobia, it’s a parallel form.
re “Klansmen and other white Supremacists used to have to hide their identities becuase they knew they’d be shunned and face consequences for their disgusting evil racism. They used to fear being exposed for what they are.”
Nope. The hoods were to hide identity so they would not get prosecuted, but also to intimidate. A ‘uniform’.
Also a cultural statement, like the red hats mentioned above.

eastexsteve, for Texas, https://texaspolitics.utexas.edu/blog/trends-latino-attitudes-texas-foreshadowed-trump%E2%80%99s-gains-2024
Best as I can tell, ‘Latino’ voters who supported Trump did so because for them, economics, security, and anti‑socialism were more important than objections to his rhetoric, and quite a few did not interpret the anti-immigrant rhetoric as targeting their own subgroup. They are not a bloc, they are people, and they can be racist too.
Some of the impetus for Latino folks supporting Don Dong probably has to with Christian identity. Why they see him as “Christian” is beyond my comprehension. Some of the decline in his support might be because certain Christian groups are waking up to the fact that “Christian identity” or “Christian nationalism” means white and Protestant.
Trump just froze Federal funds for a South Texas Catholic Charities for migrant shelter. That won’t make some Texas Catholics happy with him. Apparently the Pope is a supporter of this program and the founder is a friend of the Pope.
Every year there is the Happiness Survey of the world’s nation. The Scandinavian nation always rank highly in these surveys. The United States has now dropped to 24th place.
Mexico is now ranked 10th. Thank you MAGA!

@raven 1
There are the occasional immigrants to the USA from Scandinavia, they’re usually the really racist ones immigrating because they’re really racist
A major cultural export of the USA at the moment is white supremacy. A lot of the local racists here in Australia are adopting your racist symbols
