Update on Professor Piss

You may recall that last Spring, a chemistry professor at Macalester College in St Paul, Minnesota was accused of urinating on student belongings, and was dismissed from his position. His troubles have greatly increased: he has been formally charged with a felony.

There has been a confession.

Urination had been found in trash cans, individuals’ water bottles and inside professors’ decorations, the state criminal court document said.

Investigators determined Fischer was responsible for the series of urine-related cases, and he resigned from Macalester College, where he had spent 25 years working.

Authorities confronted Fischer before charging him, the court document said. He allegedly shared that “during the last one and a half to two years he developed a habit of urinating in a cup and disposing the contents in either trash cans or lab sinks around campus”, according to the document.

Calling it a “habit” doesn’t make it better.

Hot tip for any young people hoping for a career in the sciences: having a criminal record of peeing all over your workplace is the kiss of death for your employment prospects. Dr Fischer has flushed away his 25-year teaching career with his “habit”.

So he behaves like a non-domesticated animal. Dogs can generally be housebroken, felis catus will do the business in a litter box. Even Llamas have special sites they use.

He is an atavism, a perfect living proof that Darwin was right!

Has anyone checked if he has a brain tumor or other recent genesis anomaly that may have led to this behavior?

  3. Eric says

Given that this appears to be more recent, it is possible that it is neurological in origin. I am aware of behavioral changes that are due to changes in the brain. Frontotemporal Dementia is one such condition that might explain it. I agree with Hemidactylus that it shouldn’t be assumed that this guy is just an asshole or that it is just a “habit”. Note, I haven’t followed this all that closely and I am not an expert.

@3. jackmann : “That’s some Thomas Kinkade behavior.”

    Huh? Lessee :

The Los Angeles Times reported that some of Kinkade’s former colleagues, employees, and even collectors of his work said that he had a long history of cursing and heckling other artists and performers. The Times wrote that he openly fondled a woman’s breasts at a sales event in South Bend, Indiana and alleged his proclivity for ritual territory marking by urination, once relieving himself on a Winnie the Pooh figure at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim while saying, “This one’s for you, Walt.”

Ah. yes, now that makes sense and something new learnt today thanks.

This reminds me of what Tina Fey wrote in one of her books: that some of her male coworkers were in the habit of peeing into cups and keeping the cups around in their offices. I didn’t know about it back when I was living as a man, and maybe the fact that it never occurred to me to do anything like this was yet another way in which I failed as a man.

TheGuardian – An extract from Tina Fey’s memoir, Bossypants

There is an actual difference between male and female comedy writers, and I’m going to reveal it now. The men urinate in cups. And sometimes jars. One of the first times I walked into my [late 90s SNL] boss Steve Higgins’s office […] to get a reference book off a high shelf […] I reached to move the paper cup that was in front of it, and Higgins jumped up. “Don’t touch that. Hang on.” He grabbed the cup and a couple others like it around the office and took them out of the room to dump them.
    […]
I told another male co-worker about what I had seen. Was it not the grossest thing he had ever heard? He answered matter-of-factly that he occasionally did it, too. Not all the time. He said it was just something guys did when they were too lazy to go to the bathroom. The bathroom, I should point out, was about as far away as you are from this newspaper. […]

Once I was aware of this practice, I started noticing the cups in other places. In the Weekend Update offices […] There was a jar. […] no, not all of the men whizzed in cups. But four or five of them out of 20 did, so the men have to own that one. Anytime there’s a bad female standup somewhere, some dickhead Interblogger will deduce that “women aren’t funny”. Using that same maths, I can state: male comedy writers piss in cups.

No-one I know does that. I think this needs narrowing down from ‘guys’ to ‘Hollywood writer guys’ or some similar subculture that deserves a slap on the nose (or whatever it is that pet owners do to house-train animals that weren’t properly trained when young).

  8. Daniel Storms says

I don’t know, Mr. Woods. I had a roomate when I lived in Brooklyn who used to keep jars of his own piss around his room, he claimed because it was too far to the bathroom in the middle of night. But he was a hoarder–I recall he had a big box of paper materials, from years old Penthouses to, no lie, papers he had written in middle school and high school. That said, when I went to Macalester in the mid-1970s, we had some professors on the outer fringes, but I don’t recall any with a urine fetish.
