Here in Minnesota, we’ve got a race for the Senate: Peggy Flanagan vs. Michele Tafoya. I don’t think Tafoya is doing herself any favors by often announcing that she plans to get out of the state. She’d like to live in Florida? Please do.
She’s also anti-trans. Minnesota has a reputation for tolerance, and people here are very proud of their state, so I think these statements by Tafoya ought to follow her everywhere.
I’m voting for Flanagan in November.

I also just plain like Flanagan.
Only 40 days until November 3, voting day.I have a new id, a voter ID card an I am hot to vote. I have a bottle of celebratory champagne, and I may have to get a pizza to celebrate victory. I am hoping Talarico can flush the odious Ken Paxton out of office.
US Senator has become a job that pays well, provides lots of benefits and has NO QUALIFICATIONS other than age and citizenship. You don’t need a degree in anything, even a GED. Nothing. You can be a complete doofus and get elected senator. We truly live in Idiocracy.
Doc Bill@#3
To wit, Alabama’s Tommy Tuberville, now gravely concerned that furries are flying our airplanes. Also, except for the intelligent and perceptive voters of Georgia, we might have had ex-footballer Herschel Walker.
Things are not going well in the USA.
They are also rapidly getting worse.
I stopped for gas last night on my way home.
Routine.
Except the price was the highest I can remember, over $6:00 a gallon.
What is worse is that diesel fuel in California has gone up even more.
The average for the state is $8:40.
You know the Fall Equinox was two days ago. This is harvest season.
This is going to hit the truckers and farmers hard.
This isn’t going to do the GOP any good in the upcoming election.
Minnesota’s prices per gallon are lower but Diesel prices are still at a record high.
she’s a grifter and a carpetbagger
so many politicians seem to want to choose whom they represent (and actually live elsewhere)
see the controversy around Tuberville’s residency in Florida vs Alabama
related to/considerable overlap with fraudulent voting based on residency by Ken Paxton and other officials ( recently seems to be a GOP thing more than a dem thing – but I’m from Chicago there’s plenty of corrupt politicians in recent history that are blue, that I am aware of)
see also this piece of work:

my point: too many officials seem to shop for an office, choose whom they represent, and cheat to secure that office – as opposed to being OF the community they purport to serve (and serve for the community’s sake vs personal or party/agenda gain)
I suspect that if we got MONEY out of politics this may change
I was in the extreme southern Sierra Nevada a few weeks ago, passing through a really remote spot on the map called Kennedy Meadow. They have a general store there that services through-hikers on the PCT. They also sell gas, which, at the time was $9.50. Then I just read something about prices approaching $9 down in metropolitan San Diego. This is serious shit that trump and his gop synchophants are not going to be able to hand wave away.
@Larry:
I don’t know why he’d be worried about that. It’s been a running joke for decades that a terrorist attack at a furry convention would take down a lot of Internet infrastructure because of how many furries are in the tech industry. Heck, I know someone from the early days of the fandom who pretty much retired at thirty because he cashed out and became a multi-millionaire during the big dot-com boom of the late 1990s. (He helps less-technical friends out with streaming setups these days.)
Sure, heavy into tech probably makes them even more suitable as ground crew, but most modern airplanes are computers with wings anyway. Especially fighter jets, which literally can’t be flown on human reflexes alone anymore because the slight time lag between thought and motion of the hands on the controls is enough to cause problems if there isn’t something else to actively damp out oscillations.
Of course, I actually do know why he’d be worried about that. It’s because he’s a bigoted idiot (but I repeat myself) who believes that anybody who doesn’t match his narrow-minded personal vision of ‘how things should be’ can’t possibly be up to any good.
I notice that Peggy Flanigan is also a member of the White Earth Nation of Ojibwe.
“This state has gone so far left it’s amazing that any of the snow still sticks.”
?HUH?
… because left is a direction and if you turn things 90 degrees things slide off? Or.. something to do with “snowflakes”????
I … don’t get it.
There’s another reason, in Minnesota’s recent past, to question (not necessarily reject) Tafoya as a candidate: Her adult life experience is in the entertainment-end-of-sport world, in her case as a reporter (often the “football sideline” reporter). The similarities to a certain former complete nutcase Governor from the world of professional wrestling — far more fixed than the NFL, too — should at least result in searching inquiry.
Any resemblance to certain utterly unqualified residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (not just the current one, either) and the later difficulties arising from those individuals displaying a complete lack of empathy is entirely coincidental winkwinknudgenudge.
I hear Snake Island is nice this time of year.
@ #6:
“my point: too many officials seem to shop for an office, choose whom they represent, and cheat to secure that office – as opposed to being OF the community they purport to serve (and serve for the community’s sake vs personal or party/agenda gain)”
I agree but… who are the idiots voting for these people? The carpetbaggers wouldn’t do it if it didn’t work…
Not formal qualifications, but we all know the politician-type.
A particular temperament, a particular type of confidence, a particular type of narcissism.
Lie with a straight face and a smile, promise whatever it takes, stroke people as required.
And keep it up, day in day out. Week in week out. Psychological stamina is required.
Keep up the social stuff, the kissing of babies, the whole thing.
I know I couldn’t do that, for sure for sure.
Tafoya may change her plans when she finds out hispanic voters in Florida are turning away from republicans, like they are in Texas.
