He’s absolutely, utterly insane, and a danger to the world

I hope TACO Trump chickens out by 7pm Central time, but right now he’s blustering and posturing even more than usual.

A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. | don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!

Right. God bless the people of Iran while threatening to obliterate them. He’s either steeling his nerve to pull the trigger on an action that will make him even more of a criminal in the eyes of the civilized world, or he’s hoping for something revolutionarily wonderful to act as a pretext to back off. I don’t think he’s going to get one. Iran despises him, and by association, the rest of the United States, so I suspect they’re going to do nothing, in expectation that he’ll waste another few billion dollars in futile destruction.

I don’t know what will happen tonight, but one thing I do know: Iranian civilization will still exist tomorrow, and Trump will look like an impotent, hateful fool.

He makes that sound pretty good. Maybe the USA can get some of that?

Trump and Iran are in a cycle of escalating threats. Each side responds to any public statement with their own public statement that is stronger. It’s an endless loop of threats, claims and demands.
The best way to negotiate with Iran is keep your mouth shut and deal in private meetings. Somebody on the cabinet should have told Trump this but even if they did none of them has the power to make him stop talking.

I read somewhere that the US will start running low on aircraft fuel in about a week’s time. Someone on the idiot’s staff should lie, and tell the idiot that the more scarce his jet’s supply of fuel becomes, the fewer trips he’ll be able to take to his golf properties, meaning he’ll be having to stay in Washington instead.

The Orange Menace is channeling the oracle: If Croesus attacks Persia, a great empire will fall. According to Herodutus, Croesus assumed that meant Persia and went ahead. A great empire fell, but it wasn’t Persia… and the Orange Menace would be fine as long as the great empire that falls isn’t the Trump Organization.

Any sanity within the cabinet on invoking the 25th Amendment regarding the Orange Menace won’t result in action until January 22d, thanks to the 22d Amendment. On or after January 22d, 2027, Mini-Me will have served less than two years in office prior to the next election, allowing him to be reelected twice thereafter and still serve less than ten years as President. All of which assumes that reelection would be successful, but the response to the 2020 electoral results shows how much that segment believes it could ever lose an election conducted under its idea of “appropriate” conditions…

Even if DJT or his successor offers a federal amnesty, anyone implicated cannot leave US soil again without being arrested and sent to the Hague.
    .
BTW while retroactive laws are problematic, they were used at Nuremberg. So congress can make a law that makes past federal amnesties null and void for war crimes.
This requires adding 4 new judges to the Supreme Court, but this should be done anyway. The Dems should make this a ‘purity test’ for any Dem presidential candidate.

Trump’s Congratulatory Call With the Artemis 2 Astronauts Was Painfully Awkward

The president kicked off the call with a three-minute rant, during which he spoke broadly about the mission’s accomplishments, the Apollo era, and future missions to Mars—though he implied that he’ll probably die before the U.S. reaches the Red Planet.

“We’ll push on to Mars. That’ll be very exciting, I’m waiting for that so much,” Trump said. “I’d love to be here, but maybe we won’t quite make it in terms of timing. But we’ll be up at the Moon, and that’s gonna happen soon.” As he said this, Artemis 2 Pilot Victor Glover appeared to whisper something to Commander Reid Wiseman, though we can only imagine what was said.

At the end of those long three minutes, Trump finally asked the astronauts a question: What is the most unforgettable part of this historic day? Wiseman answered on behalf of the crew, highlighting several of the surface features they observed, the eclipse, and seeing Mars in the distance.

“That’s fantastic,” Trump said before launching into another rant about how he had to choose whether to “revive” NASA or “close it down” during his first term, which elicited looks of exaggerated surprise from the astronauts. The president said he had “very little hesitation” about keeping the agency running, then suddenly segued into the U.S. Space Force….

Trump has always been a narcissist, and his current sycophantic cabinet has put that into overdrive, since feeding his ego is the only requirement he places on hiring decisions. So it is no wonder that he made the call all about himself.
He did mention Canada (one of the astronauts is Canadian) without bringing up the 51st state nonsense, so maybe he has some small measure of self control remaining.

  15. Reginald Selkirk says

The US has set the example here. It is apparently acceptable to invade another sovereign state, kidnap a suspect, and put them on trial in your own country.

Shades of Croesus and the Oracle here.

“If Trump goes to war with Persia, a mighty civilization will be destroyed.”

At the moment, the civilization at most risk for destruction thanks to the Trump Regime is that of the US.

But, congress is dead, the courts have been ignored, the plutocrats just suck up more obscene wealth, there is no power that can stop him. I despise this destructive, dying, death spiral society. I worry that won’t stop him, even if the thought occurs to him. I’ve seen too much obedience in advance, I’m not confident in the chain of command to refuse such an order.

Trump wasn’t satisfied in dismantling America; he decided to wreck the whole world.

Trump is being consumed by the power given to him as president to the world’s most powerful government. Nukes, (the ultimate power?) are the next phase of being consumed by that power. No one should be surprised if he chooses that path. He will show the world how much power he has, and that he is not afraid to use it. Our only hope may be the few rational minds, if any, left in the military. And even scarier is the “doing it for God” rhetoric that keeps surfacing.

Bowling ball bouncing down a steep hill, car out of control on the freeway, bull in a China shop (pick a description) and is anyone one on the Republican side is trying to stop this? No, they are actually aiding his extreme grandiosity and ego-syntonic sadism.

    Well sure.

So, when was the last time the US military refused to obey an illegal order?
When was the last time they prosecuted a soldier for war crimes?
When was the last time they prosecuted a US general for war crimes?

    About never.
The US military has been heavily indoctrinated in the chain of command and to follow orders.

A few soldiers have been prosecuted for obvious war crimes.
The My Lai massacre where some idiots killed 500 unarmed Vietnamese civilians including 173 children.

Trump agrees to suspend bombing of Iran for two weeks

Donald Trump has announced that he will suspend his threatened bombing of Iran’s energy infrastructure and bridges for two weeks.

In a post on Truth Social he says that it is conditional on Iran reopening the strait of Hormuz calling it a double sided ceasefire. He goes on to say that he has received a workable ceasefire proposal from Iran.

The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East.”

We’ll bring you more as it comes in.

Bipartisan Calls To Remove Trump From Office Grow As He Threatens Iranian ‘Genocide’

Democratic lawmakers and former conservative allies have increasingly called for Vice President JD Vance and members of Donald Trump’s cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove the president from office after he threatened to kill an “entire civilization” if Iranian leaders fail to meet U.S. demands by a Tuesday evening deadline.

By the way, Vance has currently been sent to Europe.

The snark shines: Vance accuses EU of ‘foreign interference’ in upcoming Hungarian election while endorsing Orbán – as it happened

Without skipping a beat, he smoothly moved from lambasting European “bureaucrats” for “one of the worst examples of foreign election interference” he has ever seen (14:09) and accusing them of trying to “destroy the economy of Hungary” to saying he is “here to help him in this election campaign” and that and he was expecting him to win the vote on Sunday (14:26).

The republicans that are covering up his crimes, covering up his coup attempt, etc. are not simply enablers, they have become active participants. It’s not a matter of simply impeaching Trump; we are living post-coup and the US will never be safe until the conspiracy has been crushed. The conspiracy has been ongoing since 1865, when the south mooted reconstruction by sending a hit team to take out Abraham Lincoln. At this point I am in favor of firing squads for MAGA.

    raven@#24:
When was the last time they prosecuted a soldier for war crimes?

Most of the US soldiers I can think of who have been prosecuted for war crimes (Bales, Calley) were prosecuted for killing people without orders. Calley wasn’t obeying an illegal order, he was basically prosecuted for shooting the wrong peoplr while the camera was running. Ditto Bales. Ditto the Blackwater guys.
