Wow! Love that second photo – surprised that’s with an IPhone.

Have tried with my phone camera and not got anything near that good.

My phone does help to see the colours and aurorae -better than the uniaded eyes but not to capture them so vividly.

    neato…

back in the nineties, I dropped out of college and went on a road trip up to Alaska to gut fish for a summer, and had a lot of really cool experiences during that.

Getting to observe the Aurelius borealis (sp?) was part of that. We were trying some dumb shit like swapping out drivers without stopping, instead of getting proper rest, and I was driving at night through British Colombia? (maybe Yukon?), and thought the windshield was getting blurry. Put on the windshield wipers, and it didn’t help, and then a minute or so later I realized it was the aurelius borealis, woke up my companion, pulled off to the side of the road, and just kinda sat ther in dumbstruck awe at the weird and pretty light show.

@ ^ birgerjohansson : Cloudy and raining outside here in Adelaide South Oz too.

FWIW for other Aussies & Southern hemispherers who might have clear skies there’s a comet – Comet Lemmon hopefully by name not nature – that’s visible albeit only just in our night skies too. :

Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) has been making its way through the Solar System, recently passing around the Sun.

It was in the news a bit last month, but it was really only visible in the Northern Hemisphere. Now that it has survived its journey around the Sun, it is quite bright and in our evening skies!

About 30 minutes after Sunset, look west and you may get a glimpse of it next to Mars and the constellation Scorpio.

It is on the border of being visible to the naked eye – so if you have binoculars, that will be best for your comet viewing enjoyment! …
