Spring break is over. I’m heading back to the classroom this morning.
What makes it all sting a little more than usual is that my restful week off was really just a brief interruption in the middle of the semester. I’m only half way through! I should be glad of the reprieve, but today I have to deal with the stress of resuming where I left off.
Oh well. I also spent the last couple of days setting up all of my classes. I’m all ready to go with a lecture on endocrine disruptors, specifically DES and BPA, which at least are interesting. I’ve got so much material here that I’m going to be talking about endocrine disruptors for the next two weeks.

The restful week may be over, but hopefully that rest can keep you going to the end of the semester.

What’s this “Spring break” you speak of?

We took a vacation last week, the first full week of vacay I’ve taken in years. But my vacation week is over. It’s just 7:00am here in California and I have logged into work. Back to the grind. The only difference between my situation and PZ’s is I will still be working when the current term ends…right through summer and into next year, although I could conceivably take another week sometime. On a positive note, though, I’m planning to retire next year when I’m 76…about damn time I let some whippersnapper do this crap.

I was also planning to retire soon…and then we realized we couldn’t afford it.

Trickle-down Reaganomics will make you wealthy any moment now. The economy has doubled or tripled since 1980, and all that money must end up somewhere, right?
robro says
Yeah, health insurance has kept me working well past when I wanted to retire. About 10 years ago I got laid off and I was just starting to enjoy not working when I got my current position. It’s not just me and my wife, but our son who at 32 has never had a “real” job nor his own health insurance. He’s struggling but trying.
OT: Speaking of “couldn’t afford it”. I posted this on an older thread…According to a NYT article Trump can’t come up with the $454 million due from his civil fraud case. Trump Spurned by 30 Companies as He Seeks Bond in $454 Million Judgment.

robro@6: Why would anybody loan Trump $454 million without collateral? It seems people have gotten wise to his tricks. If he really is the billionaire he claims to be, he can just sell some assets. Anybody want a golden toiletseat?

Spring officially starts on the 20th. For some music celebrating spring, google for Youtube, Tom Lerher’s Poisoning Pigeons In The Park. A merry spring to all.

PZ, you can always start planning, though it’s in the indeterminate future.
You’re not getting any younger, it won’t get any easier to keep a full schedule.
Perhaps something less than full-time might be possible, if you can wrangle it.

And here I thought it’s time for another Harold Camping Apocalypse.
