Let the hatred flow!

I’ve been getting repeated email along the lines of this rant below.

Revolutions and cowardice

PZ, you’re a coward, as are the rest of you deranged acolytes on your site! You trash this country as racist, sexist, classist, ableist, militaristic, capitalist, and call for a revolution to erase the stain of America, but you don’t have the guts to launch the revolution yourself! Terror Groups like FARC, ALN, and Boko Haram, while evil, are also courageous! They’re not cowards; it takes tremendous strength to stand up to the might of the US government, and even more to sacrifice yourself as a suicide bomber to kill American officials. You don’t have an iota of the mental fortitude that they do! And stop pretending you care about oppression. You leftists don’t see people as individuals but as organs in a body, that must work right or the whole thing will collapse! Collectivism is the cause of racism, sexism, classism, ableism, and militarism, and you have never once attacked leftist organizations or their atrocities! You are a goddamned hypocrite!

You hear that, fellow leftists? Strap on your suicide vests and get out there and murderize masses of people because this angry right-winger (let’s call him “Phil”) wants you to. Phil sounds perfectly normal. He’s just trying to help the leftist cause by giving us good instruction in how best to achieve our aims, which mainly involves killing ourselves. Gosh, yeah, I was just waiting for Phil to give me the go-ahead.

Phil’s been sending me shotgun blasts of exclamation points for a while, and I mostly ignore them. But this one has a follow-up.

I’m planning on becoming a public commentator, in religion politics and other subjects.
If you defame me or slander me, as you have done Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, Nugent, Mehta, Ali, and numerous others who sole crime is to reject your perspectives, I will sue you, asshole! I’d don’t know why these others haven’t done that already! Defamation is dangerous as is slander! Falsely portraying someone as a bigot can get them killed! Pim Fortuyn was murdered by a vegan leftist idiot, because leftist’s like you in his home country falsely claimed that he was threatening the safety, rights and security of Dutch Muslims, and Van Der Graft, the killer believed them! Its only a matter of time before the same thing happens to the people you’ve lied about! I apologize for not mentioning this my first email!

Oh. He’s planning on becoming a public commentator, because America, presumably, needs his cool, thoughtful insight. I don’t really know anything about him except his little missives that he slings at me, so it would be difficult to defame him more than I am by just publishing his words verbatim. Good luck with the public commentator gig if you think your own words libel you, Phil.

I’m missing an opportunity by not reading his email out loud, because I’d have to be very shouty and it would be hard on my voice. But especially that last sentence would be most appropriate screamed at a loud volume.

PZ, you are a deranged coward who ought to kill himself, but I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT MENTIONING THIS IN MY FIRST EMAIL!!!!!!! GOOD DAY TO YOU, SIR!! Yours, Phil.

He threw so much spittle that by the end he got confused where to put the all-caps and eleventy-one exclamation marks.

  2. a_ray_in_dilbert_space says

    Well, gee. He seems nice.
I’m hoping that nice men from the government come visit him soon.

  3. says

“Phil” apparently isn’t afraid that you’ll read his stuff, decide “Hmmm, he’s right, lets start a violent revolution,” and choose him as your first target.

  4. PaulBC says

    @1

He threw so much spittle that by the end

He probably contracted a recent adaptation of coronavirus that infects the victim’s brain, causing them to refuse to wear a mask and start screaming about their “rights.” It really doesn’t matter what they’re ranting about as long as it generates an effective aerosol. Good thing he is safely away on the other side of an Internet connection.

  5. blf says

That shouty wannabe-public commentator probably ate a pea. Actually ate it, not just tried to eat it. (The mildly deranged penguin says that whilst this may also be Alex Jones’ problem — well, one of them — it’s more likely he’s a wannabe-pea.)

  6. PaulBC says

Probably a big fan of Ayn Rand. Though the fact that he can rattle off a list of terror groups is unusual (I am still struggling with Boko Haram != Procol Harum and Janjaweed != ganja weed).

I am also confused. If he’s a public figure, he’ll probably have more trouble suing than if he was simply a private individual being slandered. I’m also wondering why he doesn’t consider civil litigation to be part of the “collectivist” conspiracy. Shouldn’t the correct response to an attack be to show up heavily armed and handle it “man to man”?

  7. wzrd1 says

It seems that you have a non-commenting reader in Phil, PZ!

So, hopefully, Phil is reading my open letter:
    Dear Phil,

Allow me to introduce myself – really, I insist .
I’m known as Wzrd1, derived from my team callsign in the US Army. I worked in counterterrorism for many, many years, so I’m intimately familiar with the groups of whom you are so supportive of. Indeed, as I recall, any material support of said groups is a felony in the US, as introduced via bipartisan legislation (18 U.S. Code § 2339A), which was overwhelmingly supported! So, your statements in support of said groups as brave individuals leaves me somewhat confused, as our hardest right and left leadership is equally unsupportive of such nonsense. And nonsense, it is indeed. I imagine that you think that the ISIL supreme leader was so brave – scampering down into a tunnel with a child, to bravely blow him and his own child up – before our people even got close to him?
Still, why don’t you show the courage of your convictions and strap on the vest that you so adore and attack a town in my own state? I recommend Centralia, Pennsylvania. It’s not terribly far away, so I’ll hear about it as soon as the town’s authorities hear about it.

    Signed, Wzrd1
P.S.; Have a lousy day, you bint haram bin Iblis.

For those who aren’t conversant in Arabic, the last being a mention of his mother having an affair with Satan and he being the issue of said unholy and unsanctioned union.
And I’m spot on, in regards to Centralia, PA. Uncertain when they’d become aware of such an attack, as they’re all Republicans and by nature, ahem, rather distant from the realities of said town. ;)

  8. PaulBC says

@9 Tricky of those Centralians to have hidden all the buildings. They can’t hide the exhaust coming from their underground city. Someone as clever as Phil should be able to find the entrance.

  9. davidc1 says

” Strap on your suicide vests ”
Stuff that for a game of soldiers ,doing that can take years off your life .Chortle ,chortle .
How come i don’t get any barking mad wackaloons sending me e mails ?

  10. davidc1 says

” Pim Fortuyn was murdered by a vegan leftist idiot ”
Someone hit him over the head with a sack of lentil’s no doubt .

  11. says

Yeah, another imbecile throwing frivolous lawsuits around is exactly what the world in general and FtB in particular needs right now.

  12. blf says

@11, “How come i don’t get any barking mad wackaloons sending me e-mails ?”

If you really want some, there’s probably a website or an app for that…

  13. nomdeplume says

Thing is, if he becomes a “public commentator” you still wouldn’t know who he was because he would blend right in (I see today Brian Kilmeade wants to send antifa supporters to Guantanamo to be tortured).

  14. raven says

    Terror Groups like FARC, ALN, and Boko Haram, while evil, are also courageous! They’re not cowards;

Actually they are flat out major cowards.
Their victims are almost always unarmed civilians, sometimes even children.
Boko Haram’s major victory was abducting a bunch of school girls.
The victims never get any warning so they can fight back.

    Phil the idiot:

Falsely portraying someone as a bigot can get them killed!

Oddly enough, truly portraying someone as a bigot in the USA has zero consequences, none at all.

It it did, tens of millions of Americans would be dead by now.
Almost everyone in the Republican party would be dead.
All the GOP members of congress would be dead.
Trump the president would have been killed thousands of times.

It’s fair to say that Phil isn’t exactly very coherent or a competent thinker.

  15. bcwebb says

What are you complaining about? – He called you SIR! and said GOOD DAY! … uh huh.

Why is it that long trains of abuse and insanity so often seem to end with Sir? I guess they have this image of throwing down the gauntlet or slapping you with a glove and meeting on the jousting ground or with flintlocks at dawn. I’ve lost more gauntlets that way.

  16. raven says

They can’t hide the exhaust coming from their underground city.

Why should they? They are Morlocks.

Someone as clever as Phil should be able to find the entrance.

The Morlocks will be glad to help him.
They will be having Phil over for dinner.
Phil can finally and for once make himself useful.

  17. bcwebb says

Of topic but wonder what people here think of this? Can’t judge how good the controls are to exclude other spreading.

    weeeee, Sturgis,
“…Second, using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a synthetic control approach, we show that by September 2, a month following the onset of the Rally, COVID-19 cases increased by approximately 6 to 7 cases per 1,000 population in its home county of Meade. Finally, difference-in-differences (dose response) estimates show that following the Sturgis event, counties that contributed the highest inflows of rally attendees experienced a 7.0 to 12.5 percent increase in COVID-19 cases relative to counties that did not contribute inflows. Descriptive evidence suggests these effects may be muted in states with stricter mitigation policies (i.e., restrictions on bar/restaurant openings, mask-wearing mandates). We conclude that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally generated public health costs of approximately $12.2 billion.”

Ed Brayton’s friend Mike Weinstein used to get hate e- mail because he was in än organisation that advocated (still does, BTW) freedom from religious coercion for service members.
Now and then ‘Dispatches from the culture wars’ would have an entry called ‘Mikey gets mail’ where we all could enjoy the entertainment value of these brilliant specimen of eloquence (most of them made anti-semitic slurs)..
This made us ponder the phrase ‘you will know them by their love’ :-)

  19. Mrdead Inmypocket says

Never thought of you as a suicide vest kinda person. Wouldn’t put you within spitting distance of Dr Octavius’ mechanical appendages though. That’s just asking for trouble.

  20. Bruce Fuentes says

Self awareness is not strong among this crowd. He accuses PZ of defamation and slander but has no problem resorting to the same himself?

“Defamation is dangerous as is slander!”
No, slander is the verbal version of defamation. All slander is defamation, but not all defamation is slander. Actually kind of a very simple concept.

  21. unclefrogy says

Self awareness is not strong among this crowd.

    that is a gross understatement
    uncle frogy

  22. says

I’m not the one to decide when it’s time for violence. I haven’t experienced the problems that warrant it. Sure there’s the tourette’s syndrome but that doesn’t negate the priviliage from my whiteness, maleness, military, protestant, religious american background. I’ll keep learning to be more supportive.

And this feels like trying to goad into violence because they want the violence. At at more intense level shootings at black churches by white supremacists, people looking forward to a race war.

  23. Larry says

Ol’ Phil reminds me of one of those rat terrier dogs who run around psychotically yipping, occasionally darting in to nip at your ankle.

  24. wzrd1 says

@raven #18, that would be great. I’m getting seriously tired of Phil trying to horn into my area of responsibility.
I’m in charge of oxygen consumption and foodstuff depletion. ;)

@Marcus Ranum #24, you did? Most people don’t shit that many times a day. Good cleaning up, can’t leave Trump supporters stinking up your clothing! ;)

  25. Bruce says

This Phil confuses me. I think he’s saying that all brave people kill themselves.
I don’t think that makes any sense, no matter whether Phil thinks he is or is not brave.

  26. says

I wonder what Phil thinks of the likes of Karst Tates (drove his car into the audience during Queens day) or Tristan van der Vlis (went on a shooting spree in a shopping mall). I guess he’s fine with those people, as they weren’t leftist like Volkert van der Graaf.
