Perhaps you’ve seen the avatar I use on social media. If you have, then you’ll realize the shock I felt on reading this webcomic:
Maki Naro and I are apparently long lost twins, right down to the angel wings, diaper, and attitudes about social justice.
Oh, and the comic and essay are spot on, too.

Well, his wings might actually be more like fairy wings, so he might belong in a different phylum of winged hominids.
BTW angels are either depicted with avian wings, or, if dark angels, with bat-like wings.
I demand humanist angels with pterodactyl wings! (this would also go well with the Eddie Izzard monologue “Jesus arrives 65 million years too early”).
Uh… well… I just saw his less-cartoony-but-still-cartoonish portrait, and, uh… yeah. Do you ever smoke a pipe? Is this just an alternate universe PZ who smokes a pipe (at least in pictures)? This is too much for my beard to cope with.
No, I don’t (and have never) smoked at all.
Since we both have beards, the smoking thing may be the indicator that Maki is my evil twin.
Look, I know you love cephalopods, but please tell me you haven’t grown a beard made of skin-coloured tentacles yet.
I for one would love to see the taxonomic work-ups of each! (My year of dipping into teaching middle school science in addition to high school physics has reignited some old interests in the life sciences).
Winged hominids, centaurs, and the usual depiction of western dragons has gotten me curious: are there any hexapods in the fossil record?
And I can’t read it because I live in Australia. Grrr stupid Popular Science.
