you typically do see big wildflower blooms in the desert during those years because of the massive rain input you get at just the right time.
I was living in the desert for one of these, and it is indeed quite spectacular.

…seriously, if you live within driving distance of the desert SW, you might want to plan a trip… this explosion of flowers does not last long; about a month or so at most.
