I thought that was a blue-ringed octopus (had to Google H. lunulata to be sure, and it was). I’ve only ever seen one in the wild, in a rock pool on an eastern Victorian beach. They’re a lot smaller than you’d think (smaller than your fist when they curl themselves up) but they’re beautiful and visually striking. Those chromatophore rings really are as deeply colour-saturated as the photo above. And they’re *very* dangerous if provoked. Always best to leave wild animals alone, but especially so in this case.
