Reminder: I’ll be in Houston next week

On 4 August, I’ll be joining Aron Ra and Zack Kopplin and Lilandra and Mike Aus in an afternoon of talks titled Answers in Science, in which we rebut the nonsense peddled by Answers in Genesis (Ken Ham was invited to speak, since he’ll be right there in Houston for a homeschool conference, but ever since we met his demand of having a “Ph.D. scientist” on the podium, he has gone pointedly silent). I think I’ll be giving my “Evolution of Creationism” talk, since it explains just how freaking weird and unbiblical and even more unscientific creationism has become in the last 60 years.

If you just can’t bear the thought of listening to me speak, this event is being held in the Houston Museum of Natural Science — I won’t blame you if you skip out of all of the talks to tour the museum instead. I’m tempted!

    I would recommend the gem and mineral collection to anyone who has never been to HMNS. The Butterfly center is nice too, and I think they keep it cooled down to 90F.

    This for sure. Anyone visiting the HMNS and not seeing the mineral and gem collections is doing themself a disservice. And the butterfly center is cool (no pun here) too. You can sit and let butterflys come to rest on your head and arms. Your moment of Zen.

    When I were a lad, we used to just call that sitting out in the garden. But maybe that’s why the cabbages always got eaten by the caterpillers.

    If you haven’t seen the HMNS Paleontology wing that just opened, don’t miss it. I think it is one of the better ones i have ever seen.

    If, by some miracle, Ken ‘The Lie’ Ham does turn up, make sure you understand what real science is (unless it’s observable, it’s not real science) and shake your fists at god occasionally.

    I second what erichoug said. HMNS is a pretty good time. Its close to the zoo and other museums…if you can afford to stay in the area, all kinds of cool stuff is like, right there.

    And I’m pretty sure she has a nose, and doesn’t smell awful.

    Also, the average cherry tree won’t support the weight of a hiding elephant, no matter the color of its toenails.

    Anyone know where I can find a larger version of the graphic? It doesn’t seem to be on the Fellowship of Freethought page (unless I missed it).
