This is getting ridiculous. Another collision: on 18-20 May, I’ll be attending Imagine No Religion in Kamloops, BC. At the same time, the Women in Secularism conference is taking place on the other side of the continent, in Washington DC. I can’t be at both!
But I do have a proxy. My daughter Skatje will be traveling to DC, and she will also be posting the occasional summary of the days’ events here on Pharyngula. One blog, two conferences. We shall do everything!
Warning: if you are at the same conference with Skatje, do not attempt to weasel sordid stories of her awful father and his goofy behavior out of her — she is under strict instructions to obey that one commandment about honoring your father and mother. Also, the one about killing.
OK, maybe not the one about killing if you get too pushy.
See you in Kamloops. I’ll be the one smirking at all you suckers who actually have to DO stuff.
Yeah I’m really frustrated about missing the Kamloops one, especially since I was invited – but after the Women in Secularism one. I want all the things.
“on the other side of the conference”
or continent
None. I can bear none more.
This is absolute torture for a person stuck in a lab with piles of fly cultures!
I like the idea of sitting with Ian and smirking. Not sure I’m good at it, though.
I’m attending the Women in Secularism Conference but was sorely tempted by a third going on that same weekend: the 6th World Skeptic Conference in Berlin, May 18-20, 2012 (http://www.worldskeptics.org/)
GAHH! So many conferences, and not a one of them near Colorado… D:
See you in Melbourne PZ!
But, surely, the best way to honour your parents is to proudly relate their accomplishments to random strangers in bars?
Take a spinning rod, real, and some Blue Fox spinners, skip the conference and get some solitude on the Thompson or an area lake fishing.
yay, conferences
Forward the Movement!
Ugh, why does the Women in Secularism conference have to be so expensive?
Three-day Conference General Admission: $219
CFI Member Discount Admission: $195
Those are Republicans-only prices. Seriously, screw the Marriott, have it in a high school auditorium. Pre-reg for Otakon is $70.
Hi all, I am organizer of the conference. The $219 price is actually at cost and the membership price is below that. We aren’t expecting to make any money from the conference unless someone gives us a big donation. :) We tried to make the cost as low as possible so more people could come.
Renting space in Washington is a lot more expensive than in Kamloops, B.C., I’m guessing.
PZ’s Wikipedia article needs a list of his conference appearances and speaking engagements. Just saying.
