The madness descends soon

Classes have started. We’re 3 days in, and so far I’m only 2 days behind, so I’m doing well. I’ve given myself a few weeks of grace to get settled into the routine before the wild flurry of travel begins, so I thought this would be as good a time as any to do a data dump of my travel schedule.

9-10 February: Darwin Day, Moscow, Idaho/Pullman, Washington
11 February: Florida? (I’ve got it marked in my calendar; if you’re the organizer, contact me soon to work out details!)
16-18 February: UNLV, Las Vegas
1-4 March: Council for Secular Humanism, Orlando, Florida
12 March: South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD
15 March: Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Calgary
24 March: REASON RALLY, Washington DC
25-26 March: American Atheists National Convention, Washington DC
30-31 March: Origins Conference, Morris, MN (Local! Yay! Also featuring Neil Shubin)
7 April: University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah
13-15 April: Global Atheist Convention, Melbourne, Australia
21 April: NECSS, New York
28 April: Atheistfest, Madison, Wisconsin
18-19 May: Imagine No Religion 2, Kamloops, BC, Canada
25-27 May: European Atheist Convention, Cologne, Germany

There are still a few things to work out; I reserved a few days for Florida there and then somehow lost track of the organizer and other information, so help, tell me what I’m doing! I’ve also had a few feelers from Iceland to take a detour on the way back from Germany, I’ll get back to you soon and see what we can do. There’s also one more invitation pending some negotiation, but otherwise I’m booked up solidly so far.

Maybe I’ll see a few of you around! If I’m looking a bit haggard, don’t ask, or I’ll just wave this schedule at you.

While doing all of this, are you writing your latest book “What to so with your spare time.”

  2. evader says

I don’t know how you do it, Sir, but you have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy!

And thank you for that funny visual of you at the end of your ‘tour’ waving said schedule with crinkly eyes (#__=); and begging for some well earned rest.

    PZ fighting!

Question for PZ, or Pharygula bloggers:

Would anyone know if there are supportive local or regional demonstrations planned for any cities ( like mine, the Detroit suburbs) that would be coinciding with the Reason Rally in March? I would love to go to DC for it, and though I know there are bus trips being organized from Detroit area communities, there may be those (like me) that for some reason can’t make it to DC, but want to support the rally locally. Anyone have any info along these lines?

  4. Dave, the Kwisatz Haderach says

Oh my (nonexistent) god! PZ’s coming to my city, I feel so honoured. What are you doing in Cowtown (Calgary) and is just anyone allowed to crash the party? I promise to bring booze!

  5. Cyranothe2nd says

PZ, I am SO EXCITE that you are coming to WSU (Pullman)!!!! It is going to be fantastic to have you and Dennett and Jen McCreight all in one spot! =DDDDDD I can’t wait!

    Dave @ 8
It should be amusing, in an emetic sort of way, to see what the Sun has to say about PZ’s visit.
I was wondering if I should call Fred Henry to see if he would send over a nice basket of consecrated crackers.

I split my lip open in Moscow!
Seriously, if you’re staying at the Best Western, watch the tub. They’re slippery.
And the desk staff might not react well to someone coming down to the front desk dripping water and blood and mumbling “where is the nearest emergency room?”
But the ER doctors are great.

  8. says

Huzzah!!!! You will be in Calgary again! [I still regret not dragging you out of your hotel room when you were here last to participate in the Briar Hill Bonspiel, in -30 weather, a community annual outdoor event of curling and mad drinking around whatever warmth fire pits we could arrange legally.]

I must apologise … when I read this afternoon that you’d be here in March, I madly emailed my CFI and podcast buddies to say you’d be here. One email I stupidly said that the Royal “Astrological” Society was sponsoring you. Gah!!!

Discipline me as you will. I will identify myself. *shame*

  9. joshuabrazee says

Wait, there is going to be in Atheist Fest in Madison? I must be on the wrong mailing lists. What are the details?

  10. autumn says

It would be cool if PZ’s Florida itinerary included a stop somewhere near Gainesville, but I guess this state is such a mess it could use his presence nearly anywhere.

  11. Dave, the Kwisatz Haderach says

I shamefully admit my ignorance evilDoug, I had to look up Fred Henry. Holy shit that guy sounds like an asshole! I want to desecrate a truck load of crackers just to spite him.

[Same-sex marriage] is the worst betrayal of children I’ve ever seen — even more so than the Catholic church sex scandals.

What kind of monster could believe something like that? Let alone spout it in public *shudder*. The more I read about this bastard, the more nauseous I get.

  12. StevoR says

That second last one on the list there :

18-19 May: Imagine No Religion 2, Kamloops, BC, Canada

They’re not changing that to “And all religion is true” to reflect the newly rewritten lyrics to Lennon’s classic song are they?

(Joking! Joking! Ducks and runs for cover.)

  13. canadianchick says

yay – I’ll be seeing you at Imagine No Religion. Should I bring cupcakes again? I still haven’t forgotten the disappointed sigh when I didn’t bring them to Northwest Freethought last year…

  14. Azkyroth says

If you hit Iceleland, visit the Phallological Museum :D

    Should I bring cupcakes again?

Like PZ doesn’t get enough cupcakes and pickled pricks around here.

  15. rainabess says

Is Atheistfest a yearly thing? I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before, living in Madison!
Also, I just might be able to make the European Atheist Convention! Now to find if tickets have to be three-day passes only..

  16. says

Anyone coming to Melbourne for the GAC?

I can recommend a (relatively) inexpensive boutique hotel 5mins from the convention centre.

    email me: [my nym]@gmail.com

Also, anyone thinking of coming over to Tasmania (the best state in Australia) feel free to contact me.

I happen to be a graduate out of University of Utah and still in the area so I’m also itching to know what’s going down April 7th.

It’s going to be some something I can’t participate in isn’t it? :(

  18. awakeinthewest says

I am currently a grad student at the University of Utah and, like andrewriding above, I’m also curious about your return to Utah. Is this information that can be bribed with beer?
