We need to get the NCSE’s counter-site to the hideous little propaganda film, Expelled, to rank higher in the search engines. The way to do this is for lots and lots of you to link to the Expelled Exposed site with the word Expelled. It’s not hard: just copy this code into a blog post.

<a href="http://expelledexposed.com/"><i>Expelled</i></a>

Whenever you write about the movie, use that link. Do it a bunch of times, if you want. It’s more effective if many people use the same link every time, though, than for one person to be repetitive.

Actually, I don’t know why we don’t just suppress everything about ID and Expelled. We have the courts, the media, and education all on the side of suppression, so I can’t help but think our Inquisitors are simply a bunch of hopeless slackasses.

I wish there was more science on the site. It would be nice if there was a big “Evidence for Evolution” link. Let’s all hope that Expelled is a miserable failure.

To those lamenting the lack of info on the site: They say at the top that they will be posting a full review on April 15. I assume (and hope) it will become more informative and complete at that time.

  4. DavidONE says

    PZ,

Not good advice. Thousands of people linking to a website with identical text will very likely trigger a ‘Google bomb’ flag and have the very opposite effect that is hoped for.

Much better that people link with a variety of linking text.

  5. Roger Scott says

I seem to have led a privileged life. I’ve never seen Ben Stein on TV, movies etc other than the stills relating to what is clearly a ridiculous film. Eugenie Scott? The famous, beautiful anthropologist who sticks it to people like Stein, first heard of her years ago! Thanks to her for Expelled Exposed.

I think you might appreciate this webcomic, today’s Overcompensating by Jeffrey Rowland:

Go to the main page and scroll down a little.

So how do you post the raw HTML so it doesn’t render like this:

    Expelled?

    What’s the trick?

Use the HTML codes instead of < and >. < is & l t ; without the spaces, and > is & g t ;. (Short for “less than” and “greater than”.)

Does Richard Dawkins command me to do this? Because we all know he’s the atheist pope. Well, you are surely a highly respected cardinal at least, so your wish is my command. (Not that anyone reads my blog, but as I just posted referencing Expelled, I figured why not?)

  11. amk says

I believe using the “nofollow” attribute on links, as scienceblogs does automatically, will cause Googlebot to ignore that link. So we can link to Expelled!’s own site without helping their pagerank.

  12. Amplexus says

Ben Stein’s three claims to fame are:
1.A 2 minute role as a teacher in a film 25 years ago
2.Being a speech writer for the worst president ever (and yes I’m counting W.Bush and U.S. grant)
    3. A game show on comedy central

And now this nifty travesty Expelled

  13. says

Does it help if people google the word expelled, and then sift through the pages to click on the exposed expelled page?

It’s currently on the 6th page in this search.

Why not just wait until April 20th, when the nation’s film critics cause the film’s website to rank higher with the search terms “content-free ass-headed wankfest” than with the word “expelled”.

  16. says

It is the Evolutionist’s cowardly fears of the TRUTH that makes this moment so delectable. Ben Stein is a Rock! HIS strength brings the Unbelievers’ lies into the light. May God bless, B.S.!

All atheistic attacks against Ben Stein and Expelled – a humble man with Ein stein’s intellect adrift in a modern world of sin – are artless hacks.

Copyright infringement is such a weak case. Who – after all – designed the cell? Who gave Harvard permission to copy the cell’s design and to put it on video? Did they pray over it? Were one to start on PAGE ONE, eventually one would understand. No copyrights apply to HIS works.

A Google bomb? Is that the best the vaunted avenger of atheism can mount? (If only Jesus were his sidekick…)

Rush Limbaugh continually advertises for the movie. PZ Myers – sir, you are no Rush Limbaugh!! What good is a google bomb against the towering intellect of Rush Limbaugh? He could defeat any of the weak arguments of Neo-Darwinian Post-Objectified Evolutionism with half his brain firmly tied behind his back.

The TRUTH is on the side of the Righteous, but it is not too late to see the light! God is LOVE. One can still accept JESUS Christ – it is not too late to abandon the selfish willfulness of intellect and desire.

    Peace to you.

  21. says

This is an excellent idea. however, from a Search Engnine optimization perspective these people need to make http://expelledexposed.com/ 301 redirect to http://www.expelledexposed.com/ or vice versa. if you have the www and non-www version splitting the inbound links you will dilute the quality of these inbound links. if you make one version 301 redirect to the other, all links pointing to either version will stack up and count towards a single ranking.

Jesus sure helped Rush get out of a bit of trouble a little while back. But that hardly compares to the his save of Bill “Falafel” O’Reilly’s career in broadcasting. Somebody must have really been lookin’ out for him.

It’s good for IDists to have role models like Limbaugh and O’Reilly to look up to.

It’s not exactly Nixon’s fault he was President at the one time in our nation’s history when we had both a) the press had some icojones and b) a Democratic party with spine when in the majority of both houses of Congress.

I’m pretty sure he is doing parody, but subtly enough (including his ID sig) that he almost passes for an IDist.

He’s a bit too slick, a bit too open about ID, to be real, IMO.

I ran a google adwords campaign for a while, but I stopped after 100 dollars was spent. I was linking to the expelledexposed.com site and using the keywords ‘expelled’, ‘expelled the movie’, ‘expelled ben stein’, and ‘pz myers’ (because some used those to link to the expelled movie website).

  37. Alex says

“…”I never imagined the expelled idiots could be this unethical.”

I think it’s time that everyone to stop being so surprised by those who wave their “belief flags” being deceitful and manipulative. Their overwhelming confidence that their beliefs are right gives them all the authority they need to break every one of their precious ten commandments. They are mindless zombies without compassion or empathy who will stop at nothing to attack those who question the reality of their pathetic world-view.

“There is something feeble and a little contemptible about a man who cannot face the perils of life without the help of comfortable myths. Almost inevitably some part of him is aware that they are myths and that he believes them only because they are comforting. But he dare not face this thought! Moreover, since he is aware, however dimly, that his opinions are not real, he becomes furious when they are disputed.” [Bertrand Russell, “Human Society in Ethics and Politics”]

Ah, making a post out of this made my mind spit out the best description of religion in Finland I’ve found so far. Namely,

  40. Eric says

OK, I put $50 more dollars in (but that’s probably the end).

It should show up if you google any of those terms (expelled, expelled movie, expelled the movie, pz myers, etc).

Please don’t click on the ad though… that costs me 10 cents per click (impressions are free)

Let those dimes go to people who are googling, looking for the official site for the movie.

  42. Dutch Delight says

    The NCSE *is* big science?

That explains a lot, they seem to have a particular hatred for the NCSE, they pre-expelled Barbara Forrest from seeing the movie as well. I guess PZ, Dawkins and other contenders can stop pretending, the creationists have found the true leader of the Darwinist conspiracy! They must’ve been pretty flippin’ upset when they found out they couldn’t send Ben Stein around for another interview because she found out that Mark Mathis was being dishonest.

I guess they are still hurting from Barbara’s role in the Dover case, apparently their main argument for questioning that case nowadays is another Discovery institute lie (something about 92% of the decision being copied from the ACLU (lie #1) and pretending that this would be a abnormal or a bad thing (lie #2)).

  43. says

Another is to convert the html-encoding characters to their html-character equivalents in your page’s raw code. ( This site is a conversion tool.)

It’s actually more effective if you link to it with more than just “expelled” as your link term. After all, “Expelled” is not the only search term people use. I get tons and tons of people that were searching for “expelled reviews” for instance. And Expelled Exposed is now finally high on that results list.

  49. says

Anyone with a WordPress Blog… you can use the “Linked” plugin to set a keyword “Expelled” to the Expelled Exposed site… that way, every instance of the word “Expelled” on your blog will become a link to the GOOD site.

  54. says

LOL, Mark ‘IDIoT’ Witt!!! The tell for me, though, was the spelling. You’re too good to be a real creotard. You also need more exclamation marks.

Would you condone Creationists doing this:

  56. says

Um… Don’t the links put here in the comments have some sort of google code that prevents it from indexing that link… something along the lines of rel=”nofollow”…

So linking from the comments here doesn’t do anything to get expelledexposed any additional exposure. I think we’re supposed to be adding that link on our own web sites. Mine has had the link for a couple of weeks – for all the good it does since google probably doesn’t index my site (I do a vanity search now and again – my page doesn’t come up, yet – though I have put it in the submissions queue).

An even better method: Put it in your site’s blogroll (if you have one visible)

It’d be great to see the Expelled Exposed site lead off with a big, clear statement: “Here’s what the Expelled movie claims, here’s why it’s outrageously wrong, and here’s why you should join us in protesting it. See links below for much more info.” Short and sweet.

The 30 year mystery question for evolutionists, How does the solar system’s innermost planet maintain a magnetic field?

  74. Kseniya says

How does the solar system’s innermost planet maintain a magnetic field?

That question illustrates quite a lot about your understanding of evolution.

I might not mind this ID movie so much were it not for glaring omissions in what is now widely believed to be true about ID. Many who have studied ID and believe it to be true, also believe that the Designer got bored toward the end. At that point, the design aspect kind of went out the window. In fact, it is a widely held belief that the Designer just kind of pulled e-coli out of her ass.

I did my part. I run a mail server that mostly just does e-mail for some of my friends. The front web page is really just a link to the web mail interface. But the link to Expelled Exposed is up there, even though my site gets like 10 visits a day.

  84. says

Sorry for doubleposting. I put this comment in the next thread instead of here.

To spruce up your Expelled Exposed link, use an image to create the link: img src=”http://www.ncseweb.org/resources/front_graphics/expelled-exposed-banner-140.jpg

You’ll need to enclose that snippet with angle brackets (bra and ket in QM lingo), then add the link code around it.

Shoot me an email if you need pointers. I can’t enter the exact code here.

PZ’s EXPELLED! post now contains links to expelledexposed.com, which is now one place behind it.

    Devoid of Intelligence

    OMG, I love this guy!

“…the brilliantly caustic science blogger P Z Myers”

“Intelligent design is emphatically not that theory, as it has systematically failed to stand up to any scrutiny. But, like a turd in the u-bend, it just won’t go away.”

    Re: #65

You tell him! If there’s one thing we can’t stand for on a blog devoted to critical thining, it’s people who spout off without scrutinizing the evidence!

“I’ll do the thinnin’ around here, and doooon’t you fergit IT!”

  88. says

Who says a non-science blog is dull? Consider Ben Stein Expelled.

And Mark Witt – WWJD about the unloving quality of your comment, eh? Methinks there would be another “Sermon on the Mount” that would include the admonition not to shove one’s head up one’s ass and to get moving in dislodging that plank in your orbit. Jesus told damn good stories, and here’s a word to look up – parable.

  89. says

    Done.

Re: the (reference-free) comment #179: Google rejiggered its algorithms to make bombing harder, but it still works pretty well. I’ve seen it work this year. Still, dsmvwld, I’m sure we’d all be thrilled if you could, you know, send us a copy of the memo..

(shrugs) Let’s do the experiment anyway. Expelled Exposed was at around position #17 when I saw this post last night, and it will take a couple of days for all of the new links to be registered by the spiders/crawlers/whatever — my prediction is that rank will be improved dramatically by Friday.

  90. says

I had thought “nofollow” might be a good way to acknowledge unsavory or stupid sites like Conservapaedia or Timecube without giving them linkage, but apparently it only works for blog comments, not for top level blog posts or standard html pages.
However, I’m happy to include a link to IDiot wankfest Expelled

  91. says

Someone asked and I haven’t seen the answer (sorry if I missed it while scrolling down): does it help if we google “expelled” and click on the NCSE link?

  92. says

I just I can’t wait to see Expelled!!!!!
bombed the SHIT outta godtube.com!!! lmao

    WOW, Mr. Post 54,
I think you need anger management classes – or a little prozac. Calm down, man. You blog like a fearful, cornered animal – an indication of your limited progress along the path of evolution, I suspect. Have a “nice” mutation for your offspring’s sake ……….

  94. John H says

I’ve read the blogs here with some great amazement. Most exhibit the religious zeal of an Appalachian snake handler or a Voodoo priest. What are you so afraid of? You have legitimate viewpoints to express, so why resort to tactics that are not worthy of even an emotional 13 year old girl? Some of your blogs make you sound like the totalitarian haters of the Third Reich. Again, what are you so afraid of?

  95. wazza says

John, what are you on about? You repeat the baseles accusations of a poorly made piece of propaganda. Why? Because you can’t be bothered to absorb the facts.

And if we’ve fallen to ridicule and name-calling, it’s because of people like you, who haven’t even bothered to learn about what they’re criticising.

  97. says

Well, dsmvwld, for some weird reason, Expelled Exposed now appears as the eighth link on the first page of a Google search on “Expelled”. Must be divine influence.

It appears as the 14th one for me.

Congratulations, nitwits. You’re taking down your own website in an impotent attempt at googlebombing. That takes a lot of talent. Wait, no. Not talent. It takes a lot of nincompoopery.

hehe… yeah driving traffic to a website is a HORRIBLE idea.

    dork.

Yeah, you’re right. When websites experience serious technical problems because some morons are mindlessly linking to them in an impotent attempt at the now-defunct practice of googlebombing, that’s a good thing!

  102. Kseniya says

I guess that would be “Kseniya Exposed.”

Oh for god’s sake – it was a joke! (And quit peeking in my window!)

I don’t think “safe search” has any effect on websearch anyway… just image search. Therein lies the absurdity.

Image search + “exposed” + unexplained_num_of_hits + implication_of_no_filtering = hahaha? Silly and utterly harmless quip? Perhaps a hair too subtle?

  103. Kseniya says

Oh, BTW and FWIW, “expelledexposed” came up eighth in my search, too. My list is the same as yours (dsmv), except for “exposed” showing up on my list between the IMDB entry and the Science and Society entry… Dunno why it would be different. I’ve never visited the “exposed” site.

  118. Carlie says

It’s up to #5! #4 is PZ’s original post on being kicked out of the movie. I can’t take credit for the idea, but one of my friends is now using the link as her facebook status, so I switched mine too. Might get a few more hits that way!
