On this date, little Sputnik was shot into space
Just one shot, of many, in a war-proxy race
There were thousands, or millions, who were all losing sleep
Cos an object above them was going “beep…beep…”
There were others, of course, who were not so entranced–
When they heard the “beep…beep…” they just got up and danced.
Louis Prima, “Beep! Beep!”, recorded 1957. Lyrics, if you want.
In honor of Sputnik, launched this day (October 4) in 1957.
Who cares about Sputnik? The major event of 1957 was the production of the ’57 Chevy!
An entirely different “Beep! Beep!” indeed!
Leslie Fish (a name you’re unlikely to be familiar with unless you’re into filksongs) wrote another BEEP-BEEP song which might be of interest.
Here ya go, cubist, and thanks!

Wow. That’s all I can say. Thanks again!
eta: reading more about Leslie Fish, she is utterly remarkable! Thanks yet again!

Continuing the theme, Cracker’s “Nostalgia”, from 1993:

I am so very glad that someone already brought Leslie Fish to your attention.
I would also like to say that she is a wonderful person, too.
How about Bo Diddley’s song Roadrunner (beep, beep!)?
When I saw the title of this post, I assumed it was about this song, but it turn out the one I thought it was is from 1958.
