Evolution driven by female selection. Evolution driven by beauty. The birds clearly know they are beautiful. It’s not just our opinion.

Some of these are not exactly “male showing off” displays. Some of them are pair bonding dances between males and females that look almost exactly alike. The spoonbills and cranes in these photos are good examples. Spoonbills are one of my favorite birds. It’s been a long time since I went to watch them do their mating dances on High Island. They should be nesting by late February. I think I’ll plan a trip.

That very first image is unfortunately uncredited, and therefor constitutes a copyright violation. I just found this page, crediting it to Canadian artist Sydney Mohr. Perhaps Taslima took it from here? Anyway, it’s a good idea to credit everything you take from the web!
