Are women repelled by boisterous debates?

After the vice-presidential debate, I posed the question whether some media commentators were right when they claimed that that women dislike it when candidates mix it up in debates and vigorously challenge each other.

I am not at all convinced that this is the case and usually put it down to the losing side in such exchanges trying to find a way to console themselves by finding a way to claim victory, because it seems somewhat patronizing to suggest that women cannot handle the rough-and-tumble of political discourse (or even discourse in other venues for that matter) and recoil with distaste when it happens.

Samantha Bee of The Daily Show sets us all straight on what women want.

I’ve known numerous women who seem to love boisterous debates -- possibly because they always win them…

I must first consult with Women Headquarters to see what our official position is on this issue.

Funny, after the 1st debate I don’t recall the media all saying ‘Oooooh the wimin are all going to vote for Obama now. He’s so polite and non-confrontational.’

The leaders co-leaders non-heirarchical spokespersons couldn’t reach a consensus. You know what that means: another spa retreat to discuss their feelings until everybody gets where everybody else is coming from. Then groups hugs and cheesecake. Then they’ll announce the position.

Seeing that Daily Show clip of the edited together “turn off” comments, you really got a sense of these people (I’ll refrain from calling them “reporters” ) having been given their marching orders with this talking point.

Wouldn’t seeing Romney actually lying be a bit more of a “turn off”?

According to my wife all she wants is for Obama to totally crush Romney. She doesn’t care about style.

Proving again, I’m not very good at being a lady, I love a good, feisty debate. The clip is funny, too. 😀
