Check it out on 6 August: it looks like she’ll be talking about NCSE’s new initiative to combat climate change denialism.

When Eugenie Scott came to my town and gave a talk, I asked her a couple questions about her accommodationist stance and the compatibility of science with religion. She didn’t answer my questions, instead she made up some other question that I didn’t ask, and answered that instead. If your arguments cannot be defended, then they are probably bad arguments, and you should stop using them.

Nothing like picking a hard problem to work on.
I wish her luck but in a sense, it is moot.
1. Climate change is occurring and will occur whether people accept those facts or not. The earth really doesn’t even know much less care about what people believe.
2. We aren’t going to do anything about it but adapt. It’s too late. It’s not obvious that we could have done anything anyway. Our whole civilization runs on fossil fuels and can’t turn on a dime.

I think she’s great, but since she’s been associated with fighting creationism for so long, it might be best if she were not too prominently featured in this campaign. Her words on climate change will not sneak past the cultural sentries unless they are printed on cereal boxes and Big Mac wrappers.
Personally, I like to leave copies of magazines with articles on global warming in the waiting rooms of the many Dr.’s offices I must visit with the seniors in my family. The waiting rooms of auto repair shops would be a good place to leave sneaky educational materials, too.

I used to be a big fan of the ncse, so I am very disappointed by Ms Scott who has done great work in the past fighting against creationism and ID. It is such a shame that they decided to move away from true science education as is stated in their name, and now allow anti-libertarian socialist fringe topics like AGW to pollute their organization! /liberbot

Hey, according to George Will it’s not climate change, it’s just season change!

I am beginning to think that Minnesota could become a baking desert and wingnuts will still insist “IT’S NATURAL, SHUT UP! THERE WAS NEVER SNOW DURING THE WINTER, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?”. The more obvious the evidence for AGW becomes the more foolish these asshats look. It would be hilarious in its desperation if they were not dragging everyone down with them.

That last comment was related to the Huff Post article about George Will linked by nickcharles. Forgot to mention that.

Uh, oh. Need to alert my server to expect heavy traffic.
I am looking forward to seeing her. It’s a free event and conveniently located near the Town Hall Brewery for any after discussion among us alarmists.
