“Efficiency,” on the macro scale, means more and more wealth in fewer and fewer hands. That’s all you need to know to understand why the Retrumplitarians are doing what they’re doing. It’s just the rich continuing to rob the rest of us every chance they get.

Raging Bee @1: Yeah, that’s been obvious for decades, but now they’re not even trying to hide it. “Yes we’re stealing your money and resources, and doing nazi salutes. Whaddaya gonna do about it?”

Whaddaya gonna do about it?
Two words: Luigi Mangione.
Their security teams need to be lucky every day. The next (and the next, and the next) Mangione only needs to be lucky once. The only surprising thing to me is that there haven’t been more such incidents since. Musk has been firing veterans, and he (not Trump) is the scapegoat being identified with these firings. How long has he got.
Then again, I just reread what I wrote. “there haven’t been more such incidents”. What I should have written was “I haven’t heard about any such incidents”. The two attempts on Trump were useful when he was still just a candidate. Attempts on Musk aren’t useful for anything, and they might give other proles ideas. Although if you’re going to go down that tinfoil hat rabbit hole, if they had such good control of the media, we’d never have heard the name Mangione in the first place.
Anyone know where his case is up to, and whether there’s a GoFundMe for his defence?

Oops: “Yes we’re stealing your money, resources, health and future, and doing nazi salutes. Whaddaya gonna do about it?”

OT, I just thought you might need the information. Too bad if you puke.

Steve Witkoff, the American negotiator is embracing Russian claims. This is now the official line of Trump.
I have a mixed reaction to this cartoon. While informed people will make the connection to Musk, many people might not, and thus for them this cartoon just reinforces the false idea that “government = bad”, which is exactly what the GOP wants.
The death penalty is always morally wrong, whether enacted by state or (more so) by random vigilante

Just in case there’s anyone on this blog stupid enough to think the CEO murderer is any kind of hero -- and I would be disappointed if anyone on this blog were that stupid:
The CEO murderer -- don’t even want to give the murderer the publicity of saying his name -- accomplished absolutely nothing whatsoever.
Yes I know the feeble of mind will get a hard-on from the schadenfreude of a capatalist getting his head blown off. But once you’ve shot your load, snap back to reality and realise it made zero difference to anyone but his wife and family. He was a random corporate flunky. Tomorrow he’ll be replaced by one of the 5,000 identical corporate flunkies standing in line to take his job.
If anything, the CEO killer made it worse. Now insurance companies have a convenient excuse to hire round the clock security for their corporate flunkies and of course shift the expense to clients and raise premiums.
Let’s be very, very clear: The vigilante murderer may have given you a brief hard-on, but he accomplished absolutely nothing whatsoever except to widow a woman, orphan children, and raise the expenses (and therefore premiums) of insurance companies. An utterly despicable murderous fool.
And those who hire the members of the security team cannot make a mistake while doing so.

Silentbob @8: You’re right. Murdering owners and CEOs of health or drug companies is wrong. They should be serving long prison sentences for the tens if not hundreds of thousands of lives lost or devastated by their companies’ practices.
