The Musk-Trump interview is a bust

[UPDATE: The interview has finally started, 50 minutes late. The Guardian is live blogging it.]

The much ballyhooed interview was supposed to start at 8:00pm ET but at 8:40pm, there was nothing. The number of people who were able to sign in and now hear just silence or cheesy music keeps dropping.

Musk came on to say that they had experienced a DDOS attack, where “DDOS stands for distributed denial of service, and is when a network of computers infected with special malware, known as a “botnet”, are coordinated into bombarding a server with traffic until it collapses under the strain.”

I am skeptical of the DDOS explanation, especially given that Musk also promoted the Ron De Santis presidential launch last year on his site and that too was a mess of glitches. People are being reminded about what creepy Trump said then.

Surely the alleged genius Musk would be able to cope with a DDOS attack. Either Twitter/X is a hot mess or he is lying.

Creepy Donald Trump will not be happy with this debacle and that just five people will be able to hear it live, assuming that it goes ahead at all.

Which kind of implies that #QElon’s audience of “8 million current listeners” could be mostly or all bots…

yes! Part 1 of my prayer came true.
Part 2 : Pray that Trump insults Musk and Musk retaliates and their respective fans declare war on each other (or themselves) due to this fiasco
Part 3: I may have to convert to theism

I am skeptical of the DDOS explanation,

Its not that hard to believe (except for the fact that the person making the statement is a habitual liar) -- The cloud has mostly made DDOS attacks trivial to execute if you have the money. Xitter (as I understand it) has also been cutting costs both in terms of people with the knowhow and its computing costs which will likely include infrastructure and software- they likely cant scale easily for even small attacks .

Rex Huppke of USA Today had this to say about Trump in the interview: “He sounded like a disoriented, racist Daffy Duck.”

Deepak: Does Xhitter have enough people and power to keep all the child-porn out? Or is that still a problem?

    RB:

Or is that still a problem?

    Why not see for yourself?

There it is. Log in, see what your feed provides.

(Or is that mere ivory tower blather?)

    Rex did, did Rex?

    Well, then. That’s that, then.

(How authoritative is Rex, in your estimation, Bee that Rages?)

It’s targeted you dolt. (I’ll resist the jab that you may be unaware most people don’t see this material.)

Hang on I thought you were just blathering that your idiocy is above critique because it’s “opinion”. If I were a betting man I would bet whoever the fuck Rex is he is more authoritative then you. (But if I were a betting man I would bet the neighbour’s cat is more authoritative than you.)

Way to evade the actual question. Bob.

(I’ll resist the jab that you may be unaware most people don’t see this material.)

Ah yes, the “deep state” of Xers, right?

(Do you see this material, Bob?)

Hang on I thought you were just blathering that your idiocy is above critique because it’s “opinion”.

You think whatever you want to think.

    Freethought, no?

If I were a betting man I would bet whoever the fuck Rex is he is more authoritative then you.

    Heh.

I’ve never pretended to be authoritative.

I was gently needling about no citation, but of course even that obvious technique was too subtle for you.
Bob. I’ve never heard of this specimen, might be good, might be bad, might be made up.

(That’s why citations can be helpful. Bob)

(But if I were a betting man I would bet the neighbour’s cat is more authoritative than you.)

    So puerile!

    So.
What ‘nym does the neighbour’s cat employ when posting their opinion here, Bob?

I am not sure i understand the intent of the comment (or why me?) -- Taking this question at face value though I’d say no -- Effective video processing is expensive -- and till the advent of CNN-RNN type of AI models weren’t that effective either (afaik)- moderation isnt what Xitter is known for these days anyway.

Anycase other than registering for twitter when it first came out to reserve my username , I have no idea about it -- the technical aspects I have been interested in ever since I had a good laugh at twitter crashing way back when due to a naive Ruby on Rails implementation rather than the more obvious email box type of implementation. Twitter the application has had no interest for me -- whatever useful things can be said cant really fit in 255 characters (and so I prefer blogs and I show my age there)

Also the fact that child-porn exists is a problem , the platforms that you can disseminate it on , less so -- fwiw.
