There are many political reasons why Andrew Cuomo is a terrible governor of New York even excluding his abusive practices. He had seemed to weather the storm over allegations of multiple sexual harassment allegations by taking a Trump-like stance of refusing to acknowledge anything. But the latest report from New York’s attorney general Letitia James about his abuse should, by all rights, end his career. Even since the wide range of allegations about men sexually abusing women over whom they had power and Trump’s infamous tape about how he can grab women’s genitals and get away with it because he was famous, no one should be surprised at what such people do. But the latest report (thanks to Death to Squirrels) still manages to evoke disgust. (The Executive Summary (pages 2-6) describes the main allegations.)
One of the weird things in the report is the way he asks so many women to find dates for him. He comes off not just as a creep but also as pathetic and needy.
This news story about the release of the report summarizes its findings.
Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York state, faced demands to resign on Tuesday after an investigation found that he sexually harassed 11 women, created a “climate of fear” in a “toxic” workplace and violated federal and state civil laws.
An explosive 165-page report released by the state attorney general, Letitia James, delivered a mountain of damning and often graphic evidence that threatened to bring down Cuomo, a leading figure in the Democratic party who served in Bill Clinton’s cabinet.
Among the allegations was that Cuomo, 63, reached under the blouse of an executive assistant and grabbed her breast, and that he ran his finger down the spine of a female state trooper assigned to protect him.
…Announcing its findings at a press conference on Tuesday, the attorney general said: “Specifically, the investigation found that Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed current and former New York state employees by engaging in unwelcome and non-consensual touching and making numerous offensive comments of a suggestive and sexual nature that created a hostile work environment for women.”
…James’s investigators, Joon Kim and Anne Clark, spoke to 179 people, including complainants and current and former members of the New York executive chamber, and reviewed more than 74,000 documents, emails, texts and pictures.
Their work resulted in a “deeply disturbing yet clear picture” of what James called a “toxic workplace” and a “climate of fear” in which Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, many of them young, “by engaging in unwanted groping, kisses, hugging and by making inappropriate comments”.
Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi have called on him to resign, as have the two senators representing New York and some of its other congresspeople.
A criminal investigation against him has also been launched by the attorney general of Albany.
Cuomo seems intent on continuing to brazen it out and even run for a fourth term when the election is held in November 2022. If he does not resign, the quickest way to remove him would be to impeach him but it is not clear if the legislature will do so. Cuomo is a dirty political infighter and probably has ways to coerce the legislature into not impeaching him. The next would be to defeat him in the primary. He has successfully fought off much better candidates like Zephyr Teachout in the past but this time he may be more vulnerable.

“USA donate half a billion doses to poor countries”.
That’s far more important than the gazillionth abusive American politician -- unless you think America First, of course.
