This scene from the 1987 film Wall Street captures perfectly the attitude of the oligarchy towards the rest of us. It is their insatiable greed that will be their downfall.
Over the weekend I took some time to re-read “The Communist Manifesto” and was struck again by how right and how wrong Karl Marx was.
More than a century and a half later, the problems predicted by Marx continue to roll out and labor continues to be oppressed.
Marx noted that subsequent waves of capitalists would destroy their predecessors — and that has happened in the past and continues to happen in the present, but I don’t see predicted triumph of labor happening in any future I can see.
Nothing short of a total global collapse, in my opinion, will present such an opportunity.
