Quick! Time to mobilize the 2nd amendment-worshipping gun fondlers!

They’re coming to take away the guns!

“In the wake of the Minneapolis Catholic church shooting, senior Justice Department officials are weighing proposals to limit transgender people’s right to possess firearms,” CNN reports.

“Such a move would represent a dramatic escalation of the Trump administration’s fight against the rights of transgender Americans.”

Interesting. The majority of trans people are not mass murderers, so this is a plan to punish the innocent for one person’s actions. As long as we’re going down this road, I must point out that 98% of the perpetrators of these shootings are men, and further, that the majority are white men.

Number of mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and August 2025, by shooter’s race or ethnicity

Obviously, the most effective approach would to limit white men’s right to possess firearms. It’s the only statistically sensible plan.

…especially in the ungovernable tribal region of Texas Outer Dumbfuckistan.

Waitaminit – only 155 mass shootings in 43 years in the mass shooting capital of the world??!?

Statista (the 2nd link above) lists 165 for the same time period. Still seems low (3 years with zero mass shootings, 13 with only one)…

I seem to recall the NRA and other gun nuts didn’t mind gun control back when the Black Panthers were arming themselves.

All my life, the excuse I’ve most commonly heard–and agreed with myself during my dumber, more conservative days–to defend gun ownership and the second amendment, as well as oppose gun control, was that the people need access to weapons as a bulwark against “tyranny.”

So, when he have a president who is defying the constitution, arresting immigrants and political opponents, threatening protestors with military reprisal, and openly using the office to enrich himself, where are the NRA-types who scream that they need their AR-15s to fight tyranny? Where are they when he threatens the press or when ICE drags someone off to be be flown to an El Salvadoran gulag? Where are these “patriots” who want to water the tree of liberty with the blood of “tyrants” and their own?

They’re loudly and enthusiastically supporting Donald Trump and the actions he is taking.

This was NEVER about the ability of the people to rise up against dictators or oppression. Gun ownership wasn’t meant for the likes of Jon Brown, or the miners at Ludlow, or the Black Panthers, or Antifa, or anytime the “left” takes up arms. It was meant for the Klan, the Oath Keepers, Timothy McVeigh, and Kyle Rittenhouse. It was meant for white Christians to form lynch mobs to enact violence against whoever steps out of line or when THEY are aggrieved; the best example being January 6. Civilian gun ownership was meant to “defend” THEIR idea of what freedom is which is the white Christian capitalist status quo, not anyone else’s. It was to oppose the “tyranny” of social and economic progress and the inclusion of anyone who is not them.
We need to start being honest with ourselves. Words like “freedom,” “liberty,” “individualism,” etc. are empty terms. In America, you are only truly free if you have the right skin color, the right genitals, the right superstitions, and the right economic ideology. Anyone else, will never belong. Anyone else should expect violence from the police, the military, or the well-armed hick who’s “proud to be an American.”

‘2nd amendment-worshipping gun fondlers’ is more descriptive, but I believe they prefer to be called ‘ammosexuals’.

  5. Hemidactylus says

I consider myself something of a 2A moderate. I see a point in people, if they wish, to own a handgun for self-defense or shotgun or two for hunting. Ammo should be limited.

I’m thinking it might be a good idea at this point for trans people to arm themselves for personal protection. Just no ARs, HKs or AKs ok?

  6. stuffin says

@6 Hemidactylus – I’m thinking it might be a good idea at this point for trans people to arm themselves for personal protection

I agree plus, I was thinking, if they keep isolating the Trans people from the normal activities of American society, the number of Trans who shoot people may go up.

  7. robro says

Everyone who wants to own a gun under the auspices of the 2nd Amendment should be allowed to purchase a muzzle-loading long rifle.

I’ve read that the requirement to own a gun and participate in the militia was a bit cf a hardship on poor farmers at the time Europeans were pushing westward.

Also, note that it’s been a long time since armed citizens could overthrow the government, as long as the government has control of the military. The military, and that includes urban police, has far more firepower, logistical capability, training, and coordination capabilities than armed citizens even with AKs. The US military could easily crush any armed insurrection if they wanted to. I learned that at college in the late 60s from a Black historian talking about the silliness of an armed Black uprising in America. So, the rationale that the 2nd is for popular uprisings is ridiculous on the face of it.

There’s a lot of variation in definitions of “mass shooting”, it’s probably that

Not to mention the text of the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8:

The Congress shall have Power To … provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions; … [emphasis added]

    — just as you might expect from a document from a Constitutional Convention provoked by Shay’s Rebellion (itself a reaction to taxes three and four times higher than those before the Revolution).

It used to be a right of passage down here in Texas, for young morons to drive to the gay nightclub areas of Houston to “roll queers”. Then Texas made CC laws allowing easier carrying of guns. Gays organized The Pink Pistols to get gays armed and trained at local shoot ranges. The rolling queers activities started to drop off markedly. That made me laugh.

  11. Deborah Goldsmith says

I don’t care about guns. I care about the fact that they want to declare all trans people “mentally deficient” and what else that will enable if it sticks.

Words like “freedom,” “liberty,” “individualism,” etc. are empty terms. In America, …

    Yeah, about that…
America (US of), like most nations, have both inalienable and alienable rights.
While the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are allegedly inalienable in the USA, property rights are not.
You are free to live, free to proclaim your liberty, and free to pursue happiness (which is an oddly subjective right to assert that is best left to another time and place to flesh out), but you have nowhere in which you actually have the right to lay claim to life, liberty or happiness.

Not that America (US of) is alone in having alienable property rights, but weirdly, while you Americans are free to have a gun, you actually have no right to sleep anywhere. How fucked is that?

So yeah, freedom – please refer to the previous occupants for further information.

But it looks like trans people will learn how solidly defendable/ed the bizarre 2nd amendment actually is soon enough.
