It’s been raining non-stop for the last few days, just an ongoing drizzle, cool and wet.
No spiders. Spiders are not fans of the excessive water falling out of the sky. I’m missing my little friends.
The good news is that the vegetation is going mad, and I expect once it all dries out a bit and the sun warms up the place, we’re going to be swarming with insects, and the spiders will be joyous again.
Sweden has a low water table across most of the place. We need to get one of the dimensional gates the Go’uld left behind and widen it a lot.
There’s a 60% chance of rain in Washington DC tomorrow. Don’t mean to make the DC spiders unhappy, but may it rain like hell on that parade tomorrow.
Robro @ 2
If it is not raining on that parade, I will have successfully disproved voodoo.
Dang, it is really hard to get hold of a “white goat” for a proper sacrifice.
Spiders remember the waterspout.
Yup. That looks like late spring in the Midwest. I remember it well!
robro – sending my thoughts in the same direction.
I won’t say anything like I feel for you… I’m stuck on the same planet :(
My wife says that the parade will be canceled if there are thunderstorms. I guess the Army can’t get their toys struck by lightening. Thunderstorms are common this time of year in the South, so may Zeus, Jupiter, Thor, Baal, Umvelinqangi, Ọya, Enlil, Set, Adad, Hadad, and the thousands of other storm gods have their day.
And if it does rain, but Dumpster insists on the parade going ahead, may he suffer the fate of William Henry Harrison.
Whether there are thunderstorms or not, the protests will still go on!
I didn’t know that there were railroad tracks in Morris.
I found the place where the photo was taken on Google maps. It looks like there’s a big empty space between the tracks and Pacific Ave. just southeast of W. 5th Street. That might be a good place for a passenger station. Maybe the Empire Builder could run through Morris instead of St. Cloud, Staples and Detroit Lakes.
Then again, maybe not. 8-)
PZ @ #8 — “Whether there are thunderstorms or not, the protests will still go on!” Yes, and perhaps we can think of the protestors as beseeching the storm gods to cleanse our land of this blight.
@ 9. Bill Seymour,
I’m from the same region that PZ lives in and there isn’t a town, probably anywhere in the midwestern plains states that wasn’t platted and built by the railroads in the 19th century. I recall reading an article of North Dakota trivia that only one town in the state (namely Cando) was built by settlers with no railroad, but after a few years of petitioning the railroad (Great Northern?) that they built a spur line to it from the main line.
Timmer and pals are currently in Montana (I think?) looking at a beautiful mesocyclone. Not sure if I’m up for another night of seeing if they can get close while their network connection peters out:
It is quite a bit west of Minnesota. Haven’t checked the SPC map for what next several days will bring to Midwest.
Regardless of their success vicarious road trips are fun.
Timmer and pals just turned down a road heading toward some ominous structural stuff they’ve been chasing after a while. It’s iffy. Never been to Montana so the rural scenery is a treat at least if they get skunked.
This is new: Here on YouTube
Thanks robro @14. That’s huge!

“(still developing news as that often happens)”
Ah, the breaking news thread! The veteran’s storming, not the thunderstorming!
I was not aware that it often happens that veterans storm the capitol.
(Any quantification to be had?)
Developing news often happens. Changes on a dime unless you’re obtuse and miss it. If you want thunderstorms stormchasers just emerged from ominous green glow hell (not Daisy’s dock) with hail and wind to a nice rainbow and beautiful sunset somewhere in Montana.
Thanks, Hemidactylus, for that video @18.
I’m a Vietnam-era veteran. I was never in ’Nam and make no claim to being a hero; but I can say that I’m just as disgusted with Trump and his minions as anyone who served with more distinction than I.
billseymour,
From the spouse of a veteran,
ALL veterans are worthy of our honor and admiration!
I keep trying to convince my husband of that. He just retired after 43 years of service in the DOD – active duty officer, then reserve officer, then civilian federal worker. He feels that “just” working on a computer screen does not qualify him for honors as a veteran. I’ve had to convince him that his work, especially when he was doing cybersecurity, was very important to troops who were deployed, including our son when he was an active duty Marine.
I’m glad that you, my husband and other veterans are showing their disgust at seeing what is being done to the country which all of you served with honor.
