I’m going to be doing an interview on our campus radio station, KUMM 89.7 FM — The U90 Alternative, tonight between 6 and 7pm Central time. They do have online streaming, and it’ll be interesting to see how well it holds up.
We’re going to talk about the North Star silliness, I guess. It might be just ten minutes of me laughing.
I looked at their website.
It’s possible you will be interviewed by some Beavis and Butthead clones.
Pharyngulating an online radio stream, is that a first?
Am I the only one who chuckled immaturely at the station’s call sign?
@3: No. It’s been very hard to resist making the obvious comments.
nich:
I didn’t chuckle until I read your comment. :)
****
PZ:
You’re going to laugh at the “theft” of free newspapers? Have you no shame?
(do I really need a snark tag?)
PZ
You could do a dramatic reading of the letter that was slipped under your door.
You need a time compression field. Whilst the “interview” might only be ten minutes, ten minutes of laughter is insufficient, trivial, and boring. Ten decades worth — using, of course, Pluto-years — would be the absolute minimum needed to express the absurdity…
(One “Pluto-year” is c.250 Earth-years. I suspect poopyhead will next a drink whilst recording the laughter…)
nich@3, I’m still laughing immaturely. Not just the call sign but the whole title of the post.
.
I second chigau@6
Don’t forget the chloroform!
As long as it smells “sciency”…
The students milk those call letters for all they’re worth, so I’ve heard all the jokes.
I’m waiting at the station for the interview to start — 15 minutes from now.
Have fun PZ.
Got the audio cued up, PZ! Looking forward to it!
Still learning,
Robert
I see what you did there…
PZ’s on!
Still learning,
Robert
Classic: In the context of talking about antagonizing minorities, the interviewer brings up “But on a liberal campus, aren’t the conservative voices a minority?”
Variation on a theme: “Won’t someone please think of the poor conservatives who were making racist statements?”
Face? Meet palm!
Still learning,
Robert
Liked the ending, fire yourselves and let some thoughtful conservatives take over. Lost a bit in the middle due to playing nerd for the Redhead.
Of course, I am thoroughly interested in how “thoughtful evidence based” conservatives address Obama Care covering more people with private medical nsurance is bad, how cutting back on unemployment insurance increases the amount of money circulating in the economy, etc….Which is why no rethuglican will be getting my vote come November….
Is there a link for those of us who missed it?
Reminds me of when I would drive through the Bay area would hear
“Don’t touch that radio. There’s KOME on the dial”
This wouldn’t happen to have been recorded anywhere, would it?
JamesY2 at #18 and shockna at #20:
I checked the radio station website PZ linked above and can’t find a program archive or other indication that it was recorded. That’s not saying it wasn’t recorded, just that I can’t find anything.
The interview was approx. 15 minutes as part of a larger program that is a news/events broadcast about goings on at UMM campus. So it was about half-hour of announcing lecture presentations, scholarly appearances, student events, official notices from administration, that sort of thing. Then the interview, which was just the radio presenter and PZ.
It ended with the presenter inviting either representatives from Fox News or The North Star to come in for next week’s broadcast with a response to PZ, if they felt so moved.
Sorry this isn’t more helpful.
Still learning,
Robert
