    Mmmmm…nautilus!

    Incidentally, if anyone wants to Pharyngulate the Shorty Awards on Twitter, you can create new categories and I nommed PZed for #squid. (I’m hoping that Peter Watts fans will take up the gauntlet and we can have a cage match for #squid.)

    All you gotta do is Twitter, “I nominate @pzmyers for a Shorty Award in #squid because … your reason here.”

    #cephalopod is also a wide open potential category.

    Oh the majestic nautilus!!!
    I was thinking the other day….honestly….the nautilus doesn’t have good eye sight, nor does it have a hard lense on it’s eye. So, has anybody tried fitting one with contact lenses? What if they became the eagle of the cephalopod world?

    If you crank up the sound, you can just make out what the eagle is saying:

    Holy shit. That song is beyond amazing. I remembered almost all the CB chatter, but mercy sakes alive, the cloying sappiness of the singing on those choruses was a revelation.
    And, as a former long-haired driver of a chartreuse microbus (though never no FoJ), I always like that part too.

    That said, total ornithological fail, dude. Not even the right Order.

    I’m a huge PZ fan but we just don’t see eye to eye on the whole cephalopod thing. Sometimes the pictures make me feel queasy at an emotional level that I don’t really understand. The thought of actually handling something like that makes my head spin. It’s a more acute reaction than I have to spiders (they give me the creeps too though).

    The Nautilus is my favorite. What amazes me is that its a swimmer not a bottom of the sea creeper.
