America’s manufactured border crisis continues.

Trump didn’t start America’s mistreatment of people at our borders, Biden hasn’t stopped it, and the immigration policies of both major parties are steeped in white supremacy, lies, and a seemingly bottomless disdain for human life. As long as money is valued above humanity, atrocities will continue.

Abe, you of all people must know that, due to the increasing temperatures of the equatorial regions, the problem is only get to get worse and worse over the coming decades. Of course that doesn’t excuse us from developing humane policies, but we may have to do so in the context of the US and Canada having to absorb much of the current population of Central America by 2100.

The only way to mitigate this in the long term is going to be through massive investment on our part in reforming the agricultural policies and assisting with law enforcement in our southern neighbors. I share your sorrow that Biden hasn’t announced such a program yet. If these countries just get too hot to inhabit, though, then nothing we do will be enough.

The best answer to the problem is open borders, and prioritizing people over profits.

Let folks move as they need to, and remove the incentive for poverty-driven crimes.

It’s one of the reasons that capitalist technocratic “fixes” are doomed to fail. They ignore the many ways in which our system is destructive and unsustainable even without global warming.
