    Ing: They’re actually not that bad these days. Not up to their classic standards consistently, and with the occasional real stinker, but waaaaay better than the bottomless depths of, say, season 15. There was an episode last year with Neil Gaiman that I would absolutely rank right up there with Lemon of Troy or 22 Short Films About Springfield.

    Thats good. Then Flanders ran to the PZ chamber next, or maybe the Hitchens chamber. You’d get lost in the atheist section of hell, it’s big.

    both have jumped the shark

    The Simpsons have been on TV now for, what, 24/25 years. That is pretty amazing in and of itself. The fact that they aren’t as fresh and funny as they were in the peak years doesn’t surprise me. They still have some pretty funny material and episodes even if they scatter them among lesser efforts.

    Its like having sex with the same woman for 25 years. Nothing is new, sometimes it’s routine, even boring, but there still are those occasions…

    @Lary

    Except for the sake of this analogy you have a whole stadium of women patiently waiting for the chance to have sex with you and if they don’t get to they die never having been known or loved by anyone this makes the persistant presence of a previous once golden-now-tarnished star a bit jackassish.

  6. Ing:Intellectual Terrorist "Starting Tonight, People will Whine" says

    Ok so maybe I should have just abandoned the analogy.

    Larry, you really didn’t have to come off as a douche you know. You did that all by yourself.

    Did Richard Dawkins actually provide the voice? Because that doesn’t sound much like him. And it doesn’t look like him, if DevilHomer hadn’t called him Richard Dawkins I’d never have made the association.

    Gotta agree with comment #10 and give my props to the Simpsons writers for revealing that the switch of ‘stros to the AL is a plot hatched in Hell. Houston has always been an NL city. I expect attendance will drop like a rock. I don’t follow baseball that much, but I know that the fans loved all the old rivalries dating back to the early 60′s.

    Of course, my parents still pine for the days when the Buffs played in Eastwood before they built the Gulf Freeway.

    It was “The Book Job”, and I agree, it ranks among the best.

    What sort of dietary advice is this episode giving? The Richard Dawkins demon spitting out the arrows from Saint Sebastian is encouraging avoidance of a very useful source of dietary fibre.
